Oh my. Is this line dead? Not in name, but in concept?

I know Super7 likes to be "fun" and "quirky" and do their own thing and such but this is just nuts. I don't want to play into the rumors but there's got to be something going on here. No way would any company willingly torpedo their biggest cash cow by skewing so far away from what made the line a success in the first place.

Often times these kinds of contracts have non-disparagement or other confidential clauses that prevent them from speaking about it publicly.

I'm not a huge fan of Bryan's but he DID tell Pixel Dan (on camera) at SDCC that they couldn't do Sgt Bananas because "someone thought they owned the likeness rights to him" (paraphrasing). So that's still somewhat vague but also a pretty direct answer to the question of why we got GG instead of the vintage character. So hopefully we might get a little info through an interview at some point giving us at least a clue as to why they've gone in such a weird direction.

Totally. I think back to when the MOTU line was taken away from Super7 and it was a whole "we wouldn't not want to make MOTU" so yeah there's definitely legal red tape involved for sure.

Also, here's the video (starts about 9:40) of Bryan telling Pixel Dan about the Sgt. Bananas situation for those who missed it. Oddly enough, he mentions not wanting to make it feel like they're changing direction midstream... butttttt ...

I definitely see it know with Leo thrashing on the guitar with his eyes closed! The official images came out and they look great, despite the change in direction. I hope the final April looks as good, in terms of paint (it better be matte!). This is probably the best April ever made (that's also assuming things don't go awry from promotional images to final product - BST AXN April seems to not live up to the prototype), at least until NECA's Ultimate Toon April reveal.

So was Karai supposed to be part of the wave? Super7 just tweeted that preorders were opened but they included a pic of five characters, not four.

That would be great if they differentiated the line with "animated" interpretations, but, as of now, it appears that Rat King is simply called Rat King, as per their official store. It looks like they don't have rights to his (vintage) likeness.

However, Casey Jones is distinguished with the subtitle, "Mirage", so it seems like they are, at least, entertaining that possibility.

Damn, Karai alone would have been enough to sway public opinion!

I saved this before they deleted the tweet, lol.

Once again, they seem to be doing things OUTSIDE of Playmates so seems like they have changed direction.

I kinda figured they would try to leverage Karai as an exclusive bonus if you pre-order the whole wave from their website since many people seem to be "meh" on this one.

What's again very odd is that it's clearly just their own interpretation and not based on anything.

Turtles fans will know who that character is supposed to represent, but you could put her with a GI Joe Snake Eyes and it be like "oh here's ninja lady."

It's weird. From the neck down, Rat King looks *so much* like the vintage toy just with all the extra bits removed (rats, bugs, bones) and some extra paint applications.

Like the bandages are in near identical spots - down to the bow under his left bare knee. Even where the yellow bones were got turned into yellow bandages!

Neat that they're doing something a little different and making a Karai but nothing about that figure makes it look like it should fit in with the rest of the line / the vintage looks. It's super generic.

That beauty shot of the whole group somehow makes them all look even worse.

Well, they are working on the GI Joe line, so maybe they repurposed one of their sculpts to save money on tooling

Looks like Karai and Ninja April would share a lot of parts between them - so I wouldn't be shocked if she got bumped from the wave to be a retailer exclusive.
