I like how he's oblivious about Rat King. He said that he's been reading our emails and instagram comments and that they've finally delivered their promise (e.g., Rat King). I don't know how he does it with a straight face.

Objectively speaking, Rat King does look good but it is certainly not the Rat King that people have been clamoring for. He's a pretty boy rocker, with some overlap with the toon chad version. If this trend continues, Napoleon will look like Genghis, which would make it very easy to make Attila and Rasputin (as they would be color swaps) and Traag will likely look like his video game/toon designs (as opposed to his over-the-top gnarly vintage counterpart).

I still can't believe they withheld Karai (maybe too many humans in one wave) as she would have tipped public opinion in favor of this wave and her design appears to be somewhat consistent with her comic book appearance (I'm pretty sure one of her alternate head sculpts has the head band as well for the more classic presentation). Speaking of Karai, this is a great opportunity for them to make Lotus Blossum and consult Varner as she was never translated to toy form in the vintage line (they would also bypass Playmates as is the case with Karai).

I think he's doing that PR thing, where you don't acknowledge any problems and just try to hype up how great everything is. I doubt he has a choice in the matter.

But yeah it really makes me fear for the future of the line. We've had it where S7 couldn't make a character, but this is the first time where they made a character but were forced (allegedly) to make him different.

If this happens again with other key characters that's sort of a death knell for the line, in the eyes of the target demo.

Everyone is saying that they can’t make the Ultimates look like the Playmates toys, but where did this rumor start? I can’t wait for Wave 11 to come out and have the figures look like the Playmates toys. Everyone is up in arms, being dramatic and saying they will sell their whole collection but why? Based off of a rumor on the internet?

I guess I’m in the minority, I think Rat King looks great. But I agree, they should have had an “old school” alternative head where he’s just f*#ked up looking like the original.

Someone in the know that claimed to have sources in the industry. Right now, the rumor/claim is looking to be somewhat true. If the next wave is like this crappy wave 10, and General Traag looks like the Rockbiter and not like his playmates toy, you can kiss TMNT ultimates done. Wave 11 rides on it, unless this wave really tanks

If the Playmates thing is legit, there is a technical loophole that can be exploited, but I don't think Super7 is keen enough to figure it out.


They can separately sell accessory packs with the much needed head-sculpts (e.g. storage-shell TMNT head sculpts, Wacky Action TMNT head sculpts, Toon April, Vintage Rat King etc.). This would allow them to bypass Playmates and is a strategy used by the not-Leo and non-Don by 5kToys.

I feel for all the S7 collectors as they truly have gone way off the rails by this point.

Ridiculous how they went from making intentionally crappy Shredder eyebrow helmet to drive home the dedication to vintage figure accuracy only to now have hit a low where Rat King looks like a bootleg of the vintage figure with none of his signature accessories...

We already have the Rat King from Shredder's revenge which was provided by the NECA's cartoon line. The Shedder's revenge game is basically The '87 cartoon in it's style. Sounds like an excuse to me because they F'd up and they know it.

If it's legit the Playmates thing, even though I understand that's out of their control, it just kind of makes me more annoyed that there are so many "deep cut" characters across the waves. I know others had said it, but this is like the exact "Super7 didn't finish the line" scenario some had feared.

I think this is the first time I'm actually hoping for a "variant" (re: the version we should have had to begin with) figure in a future wave.

I guess kind of... but I think the costume alone tells me that they weren't basing it off the game, and I don't really feel like the head matches either.

That’s how I’m viewing it too. If it was based on the game, why not mention it in the promo video on the pre order page? Video sure made quick work to talk about Rat King fast and move on.

There's yet another way, in that many of the concept art pieces for characters used in the figure line were published in various artist sketchbooks by Tundra and Mirage.
I have a Michael Dooney sketchbook that contains art of Chrome Dome, Scale Tail, Turtle variants, and also had unused vintage figure concepts.
There are also things NECA isn't currently creating in the realms of the comics that I would think are fair game. For example: Neca has Eastman and Laird with Lawson inks turtle sculpts, but I think it would be great to see Dooney sculpts(the extra heads from the turtles already look like Dooney's style to me) and AC Farley sculpts.
Maybe they can even create Archie styled characters but in the art style of the sourcebook instead of the interior art from the comic books.

eh, not really. It looks like the cartoon Rat king, which the game is actually based off of. All the designs are basically 87 cartoon. Flynn made his statement- "I think it's just that we weren't allowed to do certain things on the character that are 100% toy- the bones in the outfit and the spiders, etc that were not allowed to do. Some stuff is pulled from the video game as well. It's still a throw a Rat King, it's just not 100% Playmates"

I have the game. It's looks like cartoon Rat King to me, just like the rest of the games characters. The Reality is, Playmates has stepped in and now Super7's hands are tide. This line is no longer what it was advertised from the beginning and what has been for the last 9 waves.
