But you don’t actually live in either of those places, do you? In all honestly, would you move there? Probably not. Even New Yorkers hate New York City, especially now. People are moving into rural areas in droves because of the ridiculous high cost of living, violent atmosphere, and totalitarian blue policies that they have to endure in the city.

So what’s your beacon of truth? CNN? MSNBC? BuzzFeed? The Mary Sue?

Well, neither, but years ago my family traveled to Washington D.C for vacation and we decided to ride in the Metro. It was jam-packed in the train and some homeless idiot tried to bring his bike in with him, even though there was a sign that clearly said “No Bikes Allowed”. Nobody would move to let him in, nor would they say anything to him. Finally my Southern Dad who never took bs from anybody told him that what he was doing was wrong, and he was the only one in the whole crowd who spoke up. Finally the guy managed to squeeze in with his bike and during the whole ride he yelled incoherently in my Dad’s face. I remember him saying that he spent the night in the train. That was my first taste of city life.

My point? In the city, you’re either a compliant, silent sheep or a you’re a lawless thug, and if you do have a noble bone in your body and decide to be the hero, you get punished for it. That’s why people will just stand by and watch as someone gets r*ped in the subway rather than help them, and why they’ll let thieves just walk out of a store with the stolen items in their hands. The shoplifting situation in Chicago is so bad that if you need to buy a small jar of Vaseline at Walgreens, it’s locked up behind glass and you need an employee to come open it with a key. Where I live, we only do that for valuable vintage items at flea markets.

Um, the largest ethnic groups in both Chicago and New York are white.

Because right now, you're not credible at all.
You cited NBC. That discredits you already

And you cited... nothing. I mean, you cited anecdotal experience, which does not make up any other person's reality than your own.

Not a single quote. Not a single article link. So weird! I wonder why that is.

And I actually went to NYU for a year. I love New York City, and would move back there in a heartbeat (if I still had the money).

I love Chicago, too. Todd and I have talked about moving there often. The food! The culture! The comedy clubs! It's a beautiful place.

And both my siblings live in Washington D.C. It's lovely, too. I've spent more than my fair share of time on the Metro (Shout-out, Orange Line!). Did you know, long ago, that the Metro used to be so clean that they used it's tunnels for shots in movies when people go to heaven?

You folks remind me of one of my favorite quotes. It's from Sophocles, of all people.

"To him who is in fear, everything rustles."

So, yeah. Keep believing whatever you believe. I try to be kind to the world, and, for the most part, the world has been incredibly kind to me. Maybe there's a lesson there. Maybe not.

Doesn’t matter what article I could show you. You’ve already made up your mind that I’m a Faux Newz viewer because I don’t buy into NBC’s propagandist crap:

But you can’t afford to go back, can you? Thanks to Bidenflation.

Beautiful but deadly. Hope you don’t plan to have a family there.

Yeah…like fifty years ago. Now though? You have dirty hobos screaming like demons in your face.

You like quotes, huh? Well here’s one, from Plato.

“Ignorance, the root and stem of every evil”

Lol I can't help but notice you didn't respond to my facts. I don't need to post a link a simple Google search will prove me correct. I can also confirm the state of D.C. because my brother works at the Pentagon, my black brother BTW, is disgusted by the state of the capital.

*edit* well said Gal

He's in the Army so I'm not sure, but he and his family do crazy vacations lol. He is super lucky he got himself stationed in Key West and Germany in the past. His kids have gotten to experience so much that we never could have dreamed of at thier ages.

Brother if you honestly wanna move to Illinois I would highly suggest a city/town 30 to 40 mins away from Chicago. The housing will be cheaper and you and your husband won't have to deal with as much hostility.

*edit* Chicago has excellent comedy clubs

We were actually just at Zanies on North Wells a few weeks back. It reminded me of Mother Hubbard's on Wacker - a place where they crammed an extra building into what used to be an alley in between two other buildings. Classic Chicago-style right there.

But to your other point there, yeah I agree completely. Chicago is so well connected by highways that you could live as far out as Aurora and getting to the city via 88 is really no big deal.

Anyway, here's a real interesting article which discusses how the majority of gun deaths actually take place in rural areas. NOT cities.

I dont think this says what you are wanting it to say. Go read it. Everyone else is talking about gun violence and crime. You cite this that says there is more 'gun violence" because of suicides which Rural america always has had more of. Considering the conditions of the pandemic and all that I can see why considering how widespread rural america can be. Interesting quote:

"From 2011 to 2020, the most rural counties had a 46% lower rate of gun homicide deaths than the most urban counties but a 76% higher rate of gun suicide deaths, according to Reeping’s analysis."

Can you cite a source that supports your view that has something to do with your claim?

The largest demographic of gun death in the US has always been suicide, unsurprisingly.

Maybe true, and they always make sure and remove any kind of gang related stuff from these figures.

What a way to start a conversation.

Shows off your intelligence and manners and upbringing. Also, proves that lefties are cultish parasites, hating on anyone who doesn't worship them.

You are not kind, if you behave this way.
You are arrogant and stupid.
Your whole posturing just tells that you are the one in fear. Otherwise there won't be necessity to scream and insult people who did nothing to you, but I guess you are such a stable unafraid person, that it is your sacred duty to show it to everyone.

It is so typical of lefties - put an article as prove of their words, which in reality has nothing to do with anything. They brains are not developed enough to understand past the title.

Yes, instead cite the Youtube videos Cowabung-Gal watches all day, they seem to be the absolute height of journalism.

Not in the figures I've seen online, such as the FBI website. What is perhaps not that surprising is that nearly half of all murders are comitted by someone known to the victim.

You can find live action town halls on YouTube you'll never find anything on a nbc/cbs/CNN or any other "news" channel that's not opinionated, trying to tell you what you're seeing.

The funniest lie ever told... mostly peaceful protests!

Chicago is considering government-run grocery stores due to the theft problem causing many stores to close down

I've seen people here throw the word "echochamber" around on these forums like it was their best GRE word of the month. But Chicago is a true "echochamber". It's become a hub for the perception-of-life narrative by some residents, even to the point where these people make every excuse for the very behavior that got them there in the first place.

Being born and semi-raised in Chicago (most of my more formative years were in Mexico), I am glad that I not only moved out of there, but when it came time to return to the US, I had other options and didn't just go back.

My god that place is a hellhole.
