I'd be in HS and ask my classmates how many PS2 games they owned... and they had like 90 of them. Outside of PC, the PS2 must be the most pirated gaming system/platform of all time. I'm sure that has helped sell a ton of PS2s worldwide as well. Especially in poor countries.
Yep, down in Mexico I remember hearing the bitching and moaning about the Game Cube being 'stupid' for making smaller discs that were harder to pirate.

Nintendo takes piracy very seriously. Sometimes they go overboard when it comes to intellectual property. If someone tries to make a fan game of a Nintendo property, Nintendo will find them and send them a cease and desist warning.

Meanwhile, Sega approved the fan made game Sonic Mania and even agreed to publish it. I can't imagine Nintendo ever accepting that, no matter how good a fan made Mario or Zelda game would be.

Fads I took part in....

Anime/Manga: became more of an interest when I was 11, but it was pokemon diamond and pearl that introduced me to the art form, I'd read most of the manga section of my secondary school library and the art form has taught me a lot about the world, philosophy and psychology.

Wrestling video games: I used to play the WWE video games on the ps2 with my little cousin, they are some of my fond childhood memories, I also played guitar hero, I'm pretty sure guitar hero 2 was my first video game because I remember playing it at a family gathering.

Emo/Goth/Punk/Alt subcultures in general: I've always been interested in alternative things, in my mid-teens I got really into emo music and symphonic metal like Nightwish, but I also liked Linkin park and black sabbath, victorian history was an interest of mine and I was obsessed with Tim Burton movies, now I have an appreciation for The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees and a few indie goth artists.

My Little Pony: I remember when the whole brony thing was starting to take off, but I've been a pony fan even before that, watching episodes of the 80s series and mlp tales on the family computer and collecting g3 ponyvile toys

Sonic/TMNT: both of these were interests that I've been into since I was a kid but the interest got more intense when I was 11, with Sonic I had gotten generations for my birthday and I watched a bit of sonic x and the paradox team animations on youtube, with TMNT, I'd catch the nick series on tv and I'd also watch the fred wolf cartoon

Gaming in general: when the Wii was a popular console, I had bought it and I spent a lot of time playing and buying games for it, the same with my ds, I have a few pokemon games but I played Y the most, I'd watch the old Mario cartoons and collected a few figures, before that I had a v tech and ps2

Dolls: I've collected a lot of dolls throughout the years

Dreamworks: I have some Shrek fast food toys and I went on the 4D ride when it was active, not sure if Ardman counts as a fad but one day I was visiting a local museum and there were some Aardman-themed displays

Disney: I visited Disneyworld in 2010 and I remember when Hannah Montana was growing in popularity, I had a toothbrush that played one of her songs and I had a photo framed in my room, aside from that, I spent a lot of my childhood watching the old Disney movies, I vaguely remember that my old nursery school would play them

early youtube: from Fred to angry video game nerd to mike Mozart

While there are some YouTubers I don't watch or like anymore, some of the YouTubers I do still like helped me learn more about topics I'm passionate about to this day like film theory and animation

When I was a baby, I was all about Barney. My first birthday was Barney-themed.

Oh, wait, that doesn’t count, does it?

I think it counts,I liked Barney, when I visited Universal Studios Florida, I visited the Barney place they had and got pictures there, I remember watching it on tv a lot.

I was more into Noddy and bob the builder, I had a lot of noddy things, I remember my second birthday cake having noddy on it.
