Let's discuss labels (A Playmates request to the fans)
Brony... browncoat... afol... tfol... otaku... trekkies/trekkors.. gamers... fanbases are good at coming up with words to describe their group, but turtle fans haven't been able to agree on anything for ourselves, aside from simply "turtle fan" which is pretty uninspired.
The age old question for turtle fans... sewerheads? shellheads? turtleheads? shellies? Is there a cool term other than simply "turtle fan" that we could agree on to identify under? What about female fans of TMNT? A special term for them? Male MLP fans have come up with brony so, why not something for the girls among us? I am making this thread because the question was posed to the fanbase by Playmates at their SDCC 2013 panel this week. They even suggested that we get together and discuss it. direct link to the question below (42m 46s into the panel): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uuj0G106lqk&t=42m46s Is it too late for us to come up with anything? Are we stuck with "turtle fans" forever? Or can we do better than that! If you have any ideas, Playmates could be listening. |

Shellies? Turtlers? That's all I got.
(Never mind, I didn't see you had Shellie's in there.) |

I'd always thought Shellheads was sort of the unofficial term for turtle fans. It's non-gender specific, which I like, and sounds sort of cute and badass at the same time.

Labels are for rappers who need something that rhymes.
Also, let's remind Playmates how many of their lines could be labeled as failures. Yeah, works both ways. |

I think they have a good sense of humor about their failures... they made some jokes about them in the panel.

Another vote for "Shellheads". I know last year some people were hating on it, but I dig it.

I don't see the need for labels.

No need for it. That's stupid. & if there's gonna be one at all it damn sure shouldn't have 'head' in it.

Being a turtle fan works fine for me. There's no need for a silly label.

^ Fully agree with this. Shellheads has long been the name that springs to my mind for TMNT fans.

This. Period. I hate how Playmates and Nickelodeon are trying to manufacture the identity of the fans. It's just obvious marketing fodder and I don't wish to be part of it.

I think a good fan nickname can help somewhat. Choose the right one and you get an active sign the fans are good natured and willing to poke fun at themselves. I think it's only a problem if, as in the recent case of Bronies, it becomes some ridiculous badge of honour which is constantly flashed and as a result makes you look too obsessed.

Is there a reason it can't just be ninjas?

People would mistake us for Insane Clown Posse fans, and there's really nothing worse than that.

I like sewerheads as a fandom nickname.
