The main legacy of this show is the pigeon, how do you feel about that?

Now that it has been firmly established that the main contribution this show has made to the franchise in general, is a joke character who is a mutated pigeon, how do you feel about that?

Technically speaking, would it even count since Pigeon Pete is originally from the FW toon? I know nobody cares about the original, but still...

Shredder could've done more than blow up the Channel Six building. I don't mean as far as murdering Splinter, but think of the possibilities if censors were not an issue.

Shredder and Krang combined had the biggest arsenal of any villains in all of the cartoons.

How has this been "firmly established"?

Yes but the only reason to consider these the same character is that they're both Pigeons named Pete. Spider-Bytez also is technically a character from the 2003 show but I don't think anyone counts that as being anything other than a re-used name.

Well, the exact wording was intended as a joke but it is true that out of the characters that may be considered original to the 2012 show, Pigeon Pete is the one who appears the most in other iterations. In fact, I believe he's the only one of them who shows up in continuities that aren't just meant to be tie-ins to the 2012 show itself.

I'm genuinely surprised Tiger Claw has never really shown up anywhere else yet.

Because Tiger Claw is lame, he's basically one of those characters someone tried way too hard to make look cool and it looped back to being lame.

When coolness ends up being cheesy. lol In that case he remains perfect for a Nickelodeon kids show.

Give it time, he'll probably return one day.

He was so deeply woven into the Foot Clan in 2012 that I wonder if he will be "reinvented" a bit any in future iterations...

I like 1987 Pigeon Pete.

I still see some people liking the 1987 show on social media. 2003 is still my favourite TMNT series but I do seem to be liking the 1987 show a bit more again lately. I'd say it still has my favourite theme song of the shows. When I was watching the first episode of the show yesterday on DVD, I let the theme song play a couple of times at the main menu, it's so catchy.

I thought the legacy of this show was the April X Turtle shipping. I mean, this show started it.

First 2012 Donnie, then Bayverse Mikey, and now Mayhem Leo.

Gross... But only kind of true. Maybe it's the first one where it's crosses the line from being a gag to being sort of serious, but I'm pretty sure there are some similar gags in the FW cartoon. It's also not really serious at all in the PD movies (just a creepy line about Mike getting a boner) and Tales seems to just ignore Leo's crush on April in Mutant Mayhem so far.

Haha yeah, me too actually. I like 1987 Pigeon Pete but I meant that large swathes of "the fandom" does not know about him since he's so obscure.

He needs more recognition. I put up a post about him on both my Twitter and Instagram pages to see if any other turtles fans will say anything about him.

The main legacy of the 2012–2017 Nickelodeon cartoon should be all the Turtles carrying bladed weapons.

Actually I think the main thing is making the Kraang into a collective, rather than having "Krang" as an actual character. Rise of the TMNT already continued to use the Kraang as a collective in the movie.

Really only IDW has Krang as a distinct character compared to the other two. We'll see what Tales/Mutant Mayhem does if Krang or the Utroms ever show up.

I think another legacy of the 2012 show is the fact that the Turtles are depicted as teens, playing pranks on each other and making rash decisions. Which is something that both the FW series and the 2003 lack.

And having mentioned those series...

By far, the BIGGEST legacy of the 2012 series is the fact that that series was the first where they put in an effort to make the turtles themselves look different from each other. Not just by the color of their mask, and in the 2003 series' case, skin, but by having the turtles have different body types, facial differences, eye colors and different heights from each other.

Both "Rise" and "Tales" have continued that, the Turtles no longer have matching looks and bodies.
