Revisiting the firing of Jason Biggs
Was just thinking about this fiasco again and came across this video I never saw: https://www.foxbusiness.com/video/1822832571001
Pretty funny. Also interesting to think about how this happened before or right at the beginning of modern “cancel culture”, and the irony of him being punished for running his mouth about his liberal views, rather than the more common opposite. Looking back, the 2012 election felt like such forgone conclusion that it’s weird that he was even ranting about it at all. I know he was abusing substances at the time and has been sober for many years and regrets the whole thing. And unfortunately the whole thing could have been avoided if not for whoever was managing the official TMNT twitter account at the time. I think it turned out well, with them being able to tie the Seth Green recast into the plot. Biggest loss was Biggs missing the last handful of season 2 episodes. Catrambone always sounded so awkward to me, wish they could have let him slide for just a few more episodes (or crammed all his dialogue into one session once they knew what was coming, but I’m sure there’s union rules against that). |

I never paid that much attention to him and don't even recall political rantings being involved. I DO remember he had a penchant for the posting outrageous stuff on Twitter, much like some teenager trying to get a rise out of people, but he was far too old to be still doing that garbage.
I remember that the final straw or something around that time was him making jokes about the tragic Malaysian airplane crash. That is just too low. Pretty sure that might have been what did him in? There are lines and some people find it fun to flirt with them or cross them... but sometimes those people go far enough to need to be bitch slapped back on the proper side of it. Shame he got fired, but Nick ultimately did him a favor and an article a few (several?) years back mentioned he'd supposedly learned from it. Like come on, guy, even if you like provoking stuff, there still should be a limit you yourself are better than to cross. Being that guy determined to have no limit isn't a good look, nor good professionally. It's hard to come back from digging that deep of a hole and burying your reputation in it. I don't really remember what he said but I remember agreeing it was stupid, however also that wasn't a valid reason for firing him. More ridiculous still was the show actually creating an in-story explanation for why Leo's voice suddenly sounded different. Like, let's draw more attention to it?

Thing is, supposedly Nick and/or the TMNT folks DID give him chances and warned him the reign it in, it wasn't instant. Instead, he blew it off and doubled down and found their breaking point.
Think this was the article I saw some years ago: https://www.cinemablend.com/televisi...fensive-tweets |

* edit: for fun, I looked at his present Twitter. Seems like he's been largely avoiding anything beyond only vaguely political for years now, with the edgiest thing he's doing is just talking about f***ing pies every once in a while. I wonder if this is merely him staying out of trouble or if maybe he learned something throughout the 2010s and COVID.

I really liked his Leo. Seth did a fine job, but I'd have preferred there not be any change.
The fact he was fired over pretty silly stuff bugs me quite a bit, not just for the stupid virtue-signaling element of those who fired him, but because they hired people AFTER his firing to do regular voice work who said FAR, FAR WORSE. Take Gilbert Gottfried for example, who, by the way, I am a HUGE fan of, & wouldn't seek to cancel (were he still with us), but... Dude. He's fired off more N-bombs than Snoop Dogg. All in jest, we can assume, but still. Countless other guest talents were just as bad with their intense political views or history of being tied to offensive media. I don't care. I separate art from artist. If someone says or does this or that, generally, I really couldn't give a rat's ass. It's the hypocrisy that bothers me the most. |

Very good points, P. Hadn’t considered that. Crazy stuff.
You just made me remember that Rosanne was quietly recast as Kraang Prime, but I’m pretty sure that was well before her getting cancelled. |

I preferred Jason's Leonardo to Seth Green's. Last week I noticed that Jason is now hosting TBS's revival of Dinner & A Movie with his beautiful wife Jenny Mollen.
