Any City Pop fans here?
I haven't seen a thread about this genre, I love 80s music, but I really love Japanese City Pop, it's just so jazzy sounding to me
sometimes it makes me wanna dance and other times it's good at keeping me relaxed City Pop artists include Mariya Takeuchi,Tatsuro Yamashita,Meiko Nakahara,Taeko Ohnuki and the late Miki Matsubara Mariya's songs are so great, plastic love would be one of her most well known tracks, Tatsuro and Meiko's songs are very groovy, I've gotten more into Miki's music recently, some stand out songs include dream in the screen and Rainy Day Woman. I love Meiko Nakahara and Wada Kanako to some degree as well.
I was introduced to this wave of 80s Japanese pop music by the Kimagure Orange Road anime. An 80w series with a great OST with music from its era. Meiko Nakahara also sings the OPs and EDs of the original Dirty Pair series. Sadly, it seems like her career wasn't very lengthy and her stuff is also hard to find. I doubt her discography will ever be added to a service like Spotify for example. |
