3D printed turtle items
I have not posted here in about a year and a half because my interest in dealing with fandoms has waned to almost absolute zero...and interest in modern tmnt has waned as well....
but thought some of you who remembered the old projects might find this of interest. I am getting into the world of 3D printing....and these are the first two items I had printed up. ridiculously expensive, but well worth it for those of us who have no talent working with clay. modeled in cgi , these are as close as you will ever get to show accurate statues based on original series characters. I plan to do all four turtles once funds allow me to do so. and then expand to shredder, krang, bebop rocksteady and maybe a casey jones and mouser. for leonardo, the prototype is rather blocky, and I forgot to flatten the feet, sohe does not stand under his own power. with the second prototype, he's much smoother and does stand on his feet. some things, like the mask tie did not survive both prints. with the technodrome, the laser turrets did not survive. and standing at 6 inches tall, the left wheel gear is also missing from the print for some reason. but, itcame out beyond awesome so I cannot complain. Leonardo is a direct screen grab from 'Return of the Fly'. Raphael should arrive next week and is a direct screen grab pose from the opening intro. enjoy Last edited by Vegita-San; 01-31-2015 at 02:04 PM. |

That is so awesome, slowly starting to wish I could afford one of those 3D printers.

that's what I was going to get, but fear of needing to get prioritized filament only from davinci steered me away. I went with a makerfarm 12 inch because of price and build area size.

I feel that 3D Printing has the potential to reall change the toy industry as we know it with customs exploding in popularity and mass produced items left for the "squares" who just want the official releases. I'd gladly make my Red Sky figures, Channel 6 building, more realistic Turtles' Lair, REX-1, and anything else that is possible. And I enjoy listening to WCBS 101.1 FM too!
The the OP, my interest has waned a bit due to other hobbies and tasks, but glad to see you making a return! But my main question is, after you have the proper 3D printer, how much does it cost to make one of these figures and how time-consuming is it?

As for price, Leonardo 10 inch cost $440. Technodrome 6 inch cost $550, Raphael(hopefully 11 inches if done right) cost $550. one of the benefits of having little to no overhead to worry about....all bought over the course of two months. they take about two weeks to make and ship from order time. I do have these up for sale, but at the prices, only the 7 inch Leonardo at $127 would be in the 'reasonably affordable, but still super expensive' range for anyone. |
