American country singer, songwriter and guitarist Nanci Griffith passed away last Friday. She is mostly known for her 1987 hit song From a Distance. In 1990, it became a hit again when recorded both by Bette Midler and Cliff Richard.

In 1994, Nanci Griffith was awarded a Grammy Award for her 1993 album Other Voices, Other Rooms.

In the 1990's, she survived suffering from cancer two times.
