I woke up this morning thinking about this movie, and I realized that the Harley/Nightwing scene at the start is one of the most important parts of the film:

Spoiler:
  • She gives that speech about what people expect her to be versus what she is.
  • The costume she wore at Superbabes was a clear reference to the New 52 version of her as drawn by Amanda Conner.
  • When she goes through her closet full of variant costumes and spouts off the pet names she has for each one ("here's Sucker Punch Harley, Goth Harley, etc."), you could read this as a response to how the recent comics and Suicide Squad movie have made her such a ubiquitous character and have created so many different ways to sexualize her.
  • When Nightwing is getting unnerved at the gratuitous ass shot, he's really representing the audience who grew up on TAS. Think about it, we all at one point wanted to be Robin and do cool stuff with Batman. Therefore, we identify with him. Here were see this iconic figure that we recall from our youth and are blatantly confronted with how she has changed over the years. It's comforting and familiar to see her, but these new feelings confuse us--has she changed, or did we?

watching the movie right now and I am disappointed they chose the character redesigns over the original BTAS designs. But hopefully the story will make up for it.

I think the whole point is that the, er, proportions of her ass are comically exaggerated.

I did notice that we had green skinned Poison Ivy with the actual hips of an adult woman (like the final volume of the "Batman Adventures" comics from the early 2000s) instead of TNBA's pale Ivy with a boyish figure. And the way she was written felt more like TAS than TNBA; I think in TNBA she was more robotic and ruthless. I always liked how in TAS, you understood how crazy she was, but her personal moral crusade about the environment, etc. made you "root" for her in a way (pun intended).

With the way things are in the world now, maybe we'd want one of her or Ra's al Ghul's plans to succeed. Imagine mutant plants defending the Standing Rock pipeline protesters....

Yeah I think she is full os it. If a man drew/designed that it would be anatomically correct. Instead of having two cracks Think about it a person can't look at their own backside. A perverted man would have made that thing look life like

Getting back on topic. I finished the movie and was really disappointed. I always respected and held Bruce Timm in high regard with what he has done(BATS) But now I am starting to believe Paul Dini is the only reason why BTAS was so good.

Well Bruce Timm WAS a great writer and did a lot of great stuff. The problem is he's pretty much gone off the deep end in his old age. This is what happens with writers sometimes as they get older, they turn into "hacks" or just go full porn mode and lose their talent.

The weird thing is it doesn't seem like he or the other DC writers listened to the criticism over The Killing Joke's Batgirl/Batman sex scene at all. The backlash was all over the internet, in interviews, and on social media so they weren't oblivious to it.

Drawing an ass is now "full porn mode". I'd argue that the Nightwing scene was pretty tastefully done compared to the Assault on Arkham scene.

Bruce Timm is 56 years old. There's no reason a guy pushing 60 should still be getting excited over drawing cartoon porn.

Why not? It isn't even porn, either. It's a shapely ass.

Have you ever seen his sketchbooks?

I know he had a hand in writing Arkham Asylum. The other games in that trilogy were nowhere near as good in terms of story.

AFAIK, he was involved with writing Arkham City story, which was not good either. Though some of it on the developers, not story writers.

I am still really surprised with how disappointed I was watching this last night. It wasn't even Melissa Rauch that I found disappointing, she wasn't bad. It's as if the movie was a really bad joke, and I didn't get the joke. I think it would've been better if it had all of the fat cut out, and it had just been a 30 minute New Batman Adventures episode back in the late 90's.

He's not. These are full grown women, cartoon or not, women have desires and flaunt their assets. I won't say Bruce Timm does porn until we actually see a full on non-panaway shot, non-censored sex scene, which we won't.

Would you rather he either leaves the hot shapely womwn out altogether for people to complain that there are no girls in the movie at all, or only use unattractive women.
