A question for you fan artists: When you're working, do you listen to music?

And if so, what kind?

In my own case, yes, I always have music on when drawing and I'm playing it old school through a nineties Philips FW-790P Hi-fi set.

I usually turn on the triple CD player and listen to the CD's in succession.

So what am I listening to?
Mostly eighties music since I grew up in the eighties and I can really lose myself in how diverse the music was back then. Most recently I really got into Concept albums and super band albums.

Such as Arcadia, which was an artful spin off from the super star band Duran Duran. Listen to the background vocal here: it's Sting.

Or Talk Talk's "Colour of spring" these days they are best known for being the original version of No Doubt's hit single "It's my life" but they were so much more than just that song.

One of the decade's most underrated bands ever.

And then there's "Slave to the Rhythm" by Grace Jones, which is a concept album about how everything we do revolves around Rhythm and we cannot live without it.

Many first class musicians played on this album and every time I listen to it I discover something new.

I mainly listen to Lofi Hip hop on Youtube when I do my art streams on Twitch. When I am not live, I will listen to some 80s greats like Depeche Mode, Rod Stewart, etc.

I'm not an artist but I usually like to listen to podcasts when I'm working on something that could take me several hours. I find it useful as it helps me staying focused and it wears off the stress.

My brand new girlfriend took a look at my Hi-fi system and said "Gah, you're so old fashioned!"

Fact is that that kind of music I mentioned sounds the best through an old Hi-fi system.

Yes, I do listen to music when I'm drawing or working on projects. But I doubt my taste in music would suit most of you. My taste ranges from Motorhead and Slayer to old school Waylon. And instrumental. Shantys. Classical. Blues. Hell...who am I kidding, my taste are all over the place, truly.

Podcasts/talk radio, mostly. Just about all of which based out of the New York comedy scene. Anything to do with comics featured on Howard Stern, Opie & Anthony, Legion Of Skanks, etc. Chip Chipperson is my #1 go-to.

Music is too distracting, whereas discussion I have to focus on, & that same level of concentration gets put to use on the art as well.
