Why put sawteeth on the helmet?

In the second movie, Shredder repairs his helmet (or makes a new one) and puts sawteeth on it. Why did he do that? Wouldn't it just make it more likely to get caught in something? Plus, it looks sillier.

Eh idk... Dropping the turtles on a pile of jagged metal and stuff looks way more painful and bloody than the usual huge vat of acid or whatever.

Sure the acid is no fun but the thought of the lovable 90s live action turtles being skewered in long agonizing death does not sound very kid friendly....

For me it's the fact that the turtles were dumb enough to get caught in the net. Also Shredder kept hesitating over when to drop. I know it's supposed to build suspense for when Splinter comes to the rescue but to this day when I hear him repeating "a little closer" I feel like shouting "they're right there, let them drop".
