Donatello's bo staff
When it comes to Donatello's bo staff which do you prefer the normal wooden staff, a tech staff like he had in rise or a metal bo staff similar to the one Robin in the Teen Titan cartoon had?

I'm surprised that we haven't seen him with a variety of them yet to be honest.

I prefer the classic wooden bo.
2012's idea of a retractable blade that would convert it into a naginata was acceptable, since that wasn't in use all of the time, but I'm not real into the whole tech bo thing, which sort of defeats the contrasting balance of the "tech guy" still otherwise using a traditional weapon. Donnie has the potential to be made "all tech all the time" (*cough* Rise) and that could use just a little downtime sometimes, imo, that use of a traditional bo provides...alongside whatever else he's got up his sleeve. |

Off the top of my head IDW Don is the only one I can think of who has a metal Bo.

I think a metal bo would be a great pick for Donnie its not tech focused like Donnie's in Rise but it can take a lot more damage than a wooden one. You can make in retractable and I feel like it's a nice middle ground between traditional and futuristic.

Wooden bo. There is something beautiful about the most tech savvy turtle using the most simplistic and most ancient weapon.

Doesn't the principle of the bo staff as a weapon rely on the elasticity of the wood?

I'm pretty indifferent. Wood is the most traditional, both in general & for the character, so I guess I lean in its favor. I'm fine with him having a variety. There's a precedent for each kind across the ages.

I like it in wood, but I wouldn't mind having some "metal" parts. Just to be a little consistent with the other turtles weapons, which all have some metal parts.

The wooden bo is most iconic, used in most versions.

I prefer the wooden bo staff for him. I like the irony of it. He's the one that's the most tech savvy as well as the most reliant on tech, but he's the master of using such a simplistic, non-tech weapon. It's like a balance to me and shows that simple is still good and old-school. I will admit that I did like the combination with the blade in the 2012 show, though. It was still a simple weapon. A wooden bo staff is usually viewed as weak, but a good user and master of it, it can still be considered strong. That's how I view the wooden bo staff. I feel that having a metal or technical one (and I know he has used a metal one in the IDW-verse) takes away from that.
