Great shot, thanks for sharing! I have some information regarding what happened to that particular Donatello. Now, I don't want to scar your fond childhood memory or anything, so I spoiled what I know. Do not click if the thought of Ninja Turtle crime scene photos makes you queasy!

Spoiler:

A few years ago, I spoke with an Australian collector who used to own that Donatello. He told me that Donnie was once wired up at Planet Hollywood in LA, although if I remember correctly, Donnie was being stored in Florida at the time. When the foam latex began to deteriorate and the Turtle's condition scared off potential buyers, the owner began hacking off Donnie's body parts and selling them piecemeal in an attempt to try to recoup some money back. Donnie's dismembered feet, for example, fetched $600.

This same collector also had the hero TMNT III movie Splinter, but when the puppet completely fell apart, the poor rat sensei wound up in the trash.

What a shame. If there's anything from the TMNT universe that I would love to have in my possession (besides the original sketch by Eastman/Laird), it's Raph's head from the first film. I'm sure it's long gone/deteriorated by now. Does anybody actually know what happened with Raph's head/suit from the first movie? I know they went through limbs like crazy, but something had to happen to the heads. I saw Leo was restored, but I never could find info on Raph's whereabouts, or Mikey for that matter.

I scoured through this thread a while back but I don't recall coming across any info.

EDIT: I went back and read the first few posts of this thread. I forgot about all that. But the Raph suit Kevin has is a stunt suit, apparently. Were there actually two different suits, and I'm assuming two different heads, used? And where exactly does the term "hero" come from? I can't figure it out. I see it used from time-to-time. Any help/info would be great. I was six years old when the TMNT movie first came out, and that movie has been a part of my life ever since.

I have tried to channel your anger, Raphael. But more remains. Anger clouds the mind. Turned inward, it is an unconquerable enemy. You are unique among your brothers, for you choose to face this enemy alone. But as you face it, do not forget them, and do not forget me.

From Peter Laird's blog:

Quote:
There were a number of suits made for each Turtle, and they were separated into the "hero" or "acting" suits, which were worn by the principal performers and used in all of the scenes in which a Turtle had to act, and the "stunt" suits. The hero suits had the complex and very expensive and delicate animatronic mechanisms which allowed the puppeteers to give the Turtles a wide variety of expressions. The stunt suits, on the other hand, did not have these mechanisms and were thus much lighter and allowed the very talented martial artists who wore them to do all kinds of very cool and exciting moves.
Link: http://peterlairdstmntblog.blogspot....t-costume.html

Generally speaking, "hero" refers to the best quality, most detailed version of a prop--one that is typically used for close-up shots. A "stunt" is usually not made as well in terms of materials and workmanship and would have been used during fast-paced action scenes or when the prop is farther away from the camera.

Watch the clip below and pay close attention to Mikey's head:

When Mikey speaks at 0:23 ("A fellow chucker, eh?"), that head is the hero version.

Now wait until he's whipping around his chucks at 0:29. Notice how the head remains static. That would be considered the stunt version. (Donatello in the background also has a stunt head on.)

Fast-forward to 0:57, when Mikey's acting all cocky, and you'll see the hero version being used again (including on Donatello).

Finally, the fighting at the end shows another switch back to the stunt heads.

I don't know why, but that's extremely sad.

If that had been me, I would have flipped out. I mean, what the hell? They look like they were in fantastic shape, too. Please tell me the costume of hers is at least Venus, rather than some fan-character or something (which is what I'm expecting).

ACK. Powder's right - that's painful to think about.

What an idiot. I know this may be a little off topic, but it also bugs the hell outta me when people get a vol. 1 #1 first printing signed. I think the value actually decreases when people "alter" valuable/scarce items like that even though they think it wise. Honestly, how many unaltered first prints of volume one #1 are there in the world left, let alone authentic movie props from the first TMNT film? Some people.

I'm surprised at your reactions; if anything I thought you would be pleased to hear that evidence of Venus' existence was cut up and painted over.
