They've all got the same (wrong) pizza. But otherwise the storage shells look pretty great. Good job, Playmates. Keep the new reissues coming!

The Giant turtles reissues are significantly smaller than the original. And if you were wanting to use the belts from the new ones for the old ones (like myself) you can't. They're molded and a soft plastic, plus smaller.

Wish Playmates would jump on this Star Wars Micro Galaxy Squadron wave and redo Mini Mutants instead of this Not-Quite-Giant nonsense!

Playmates' re-issues are notorious for having the wrong colors (or in some cases, having entire parts that are completely unpainted that the original releases had paint on).

I dig it. I have no interest in those but that's a somewhat deep cut, which makes me hopeful they'll keep digging into the more obscure stuff.
Basically, I'm still crossing my fingers hard for Scratch and Hot Spot. |

Look who came home with me! Only 3 on the shelf at Target, just one of each (minus Mikey who is late?), so couldn't help myself and got him.
They might not be quite the same as the originals (damn) and I especially really wish they kept the right held sculpts (and eyes) for them, but I never had my boy back in the day (think he was sold out and received second choice), so it's close enough! I haven't seen my original (Mikey) in ages, but I think those had soft belts, right? Were the figures a softer material as well? Think I also recall his nunchucks had rope between the handles? Vs the one pictured looks like plastic chain. |

Ah, I see. That is weird.
Well good thing I have the oldie someplace, because my Walmart sucks at this and he probably won't turn up anyhow. |

Awesome I definitely wanna get a full set of the storage shell turtles re-issues. Planning to use them for customs.

I know the giants are supposedly smaller than the originals? But don't have my oldie at hand to compare, and that probably looked bigger to me back then anyhow, so kinda hard to judge how big this is compared to back then.
But here's a size comparison with my biggest boy (ThreeZero Leo): Spoiler:

The reason the new giant turtles don't look THAT accurate to the originals is because these seem to based more off the prototypes (on back of the original boxes) than the ACTUAL figures.

But now I just look at it all and think "cool, but no thanks". I think they are a bit late to market with this. Not only are some of us getting disinterested in accumulating more things the older we get, and some of us have already procured the originals, but the world of collecting post-pandemic has changed such that it is not at all worth my time and not fun anymore to imagine going around to infinite Targets/Walmarts trying to get any of it. |

Color me intrigued! Customs like repaints, or are you planning to articulate them?

I think they will make great base figures for any type of custom since the legs are cut joints and the shells are removable, but I’ve got so many customs planned so who knows when I’ll ever get around to it.

Hey everybody. I made a review of the new Giant Leo and compared him to the original giant if you haven’t seen him yet.
https://youtu.be/jcucdXPjB3E I also made a review of storage shell Leo and a Mikey. Both are missing accessories, but Leo is pretty close to the original. Mikey has different arms and legs than he should. https://youtu.be/MOpJxyVQreQ |

Anyone know if the Walmart giant TMNT stock, esp the exclusive Mikey, was supposed to be hitting shelves around the same time as Target or if that won't be for a bit?
Probably a pipe dream to think my nearby Walmart will ever actually get them, but was considering getting one for my nephew, so hoping they might. Target is of course already wiped out, having had just the 3 on the shelf last week. Ebay looks like the jerk scalpers are at it again. I WISH they'd also reissue the original 2003 giant figures (and a legit identical reissue) with the anniversary of that show coming up! edit: I had checked my Target this afternoon just to see if they'd put out more or if either of Donnie or Raph was still there. Nothing as expected. But I had to laugh that there was a Last Ronin figure sitting on the top shelf roughly just above where those giant figures had been. Someone gave up a Ronin Mikey for Raph and/or Donnie reissues. Last edited by IndigoErth; 01-17-2023 at 08:48 PM. |
