Eh, who knows, forums or forum-like environments might have a renaissance someday among people who want to have real conversations, not just post a pointless string of short comments. But it's gonna take a resurgence of attention spans and interest in more than just their own thoughts.
Reddit itself is still rather forum-like really, and there's certainly plenty of forum-minded people on it that post longer comments and longer conversations...or debates. |

The reasons why forums were so popular and active in the late 90's and early 2000's is for the obvious reason that....there was nowhere else to post anything. Social media didn't exist yet, facebook was mainly for sharing family photo's, etc. People wanted to discuss videogames, cartoons, movies and TV shows...and that's why there were so many forums and message boards for virtually everything.
Reddit is basically a forum for everything all on one site. Literally fan forums died because reddit is the same thing. And besides that people stay on twitter or tumblr/youtube to post art or discuss things. Every major forum I've been on since the early 2000's is basically dead now and only kept alive by some 30+ year olds who haven't moved on. |

Social media sucks for actual discussion. It's just people posting dumb thought and not really listening to each other, except to cancel each other. Look at how something like Twitter encourages short posts.
Message Boards still work best for people with actual attention spans. Plus it's 10 times easier to go back to find older posts to respond to when compared to social media where you'll have to scroll forever to find something posted 2 days prior.

I'm reaching that moment myself in a couple years. My hair's matching the color of the background.
On a side note, my 20-year anniversary as a member was in June of this year. Oof. Anyway, I think it's pretty cool that Krang has been keeping the lights on for so long. This is a fairly decent, dark, dank, bleak corner of the internet that still feels like home... of an emotionally volatile second cousin who has all the neat toys.

The irony is it's pretty much time for this place to shut down. Most of the old users have either left on their own (look at all the old usernames from the early 2000's in older threads, none of them are around anymore), or got banned.
Meanwhile the new TMNT stuff doesn't bring much discussion here, neither Rise of the TMNT nor Mutant Mayhem or it's cartoon bring much talk here compared to the earlier TMNT cartoons, probably because a lot of people here don't watch or care about them. IDW TMNT reached it's high point a long time ago, but the current run may turn things around with the new #1 but it'll take awhile yet to see how things turn out. And even then there isn't as much discussion as there used to be. All that's left is some discussion of the toys or videogames and that's about it. I think this place will be done before 2030, maybe sooner. That's only about 5 years from now, so we'll see. |

The forum might go down cause forums are unfortunately obsolete due to stupid dopamine-burned out kids with non-existent attention spans, but it's not going down due to lack of turtle content.

I also hope that if it closes down, we will be informed at least a couple of days before so we can say goodbye to each other after all these years. Last edited by Original TMNT Cartoon Fan; 10-11-2024 at 01:44 PM. |

It took me a couple of years to find this place, but I've been here for a good while. An ebay seller led me here when I was trying to collect the original 88 turtles figures. After finishing that goal (which seems like a lifetime ago) I stayed for the camaraderie with my mutually minded mutant maniacs.
How did you find the Technodrome, and what brought/kept you here?

As indicated by the date on mine, it was during the era of 2014 drama. I really really wanted to get my 2 cents in and got hooked.
Lurked for only a short time briefly, as 2012 had only pulled me back into TMNT in early 2013 and didn't pay much close attention to fan communities yet until 2014 was giving most people rather strong opinions. |

Looking back 2002-2010 was probably the best days of this forum. It was at its most active. |

Happy 25th anniversary, The Technodrome!
I was a lurker here for years from 2002 when I was in Transition Year (called ‘Sophomore’ year in US). I finally joined the forum in 2014. It was an outlet for documenting some of my thoughts and experiences during lockdown when nearly everything was shut. I learnt some stuff from people here that I wouldn’t have learnt otherwise. Nice to have a place to talk TMNT or other stuff. That’s all I can think of to say.

I forget how I found this place. Maybe through the "Ring of Green" Webring? I joined to participate in the discussion of new 2k3 episodes as they were airing.
Never been a huge poster, but I've been here a couple of decades now. |

I also lurked for a couple of years before signing up. I deleted my social media many years ago because I hate social media. This place still gives me news updates that aren't on news sites like upcoming movies and games.I had a turtle resurgence in my life and I found this place. I usually keep my comments short due to the neuropathy in my hands, but I do usually have a lot to say even though I don't say it. I like this place because most people here are around my age. People like me, who still love what they liked as kids. Just because we grow up why does that mean thay we have to stop liking things? I still love cartoons. Well at least the ones that I watched growing up. I haven't really made any friends here, but that's not why I am here. I like reading people's opinions on stuff as well as providing my own opinion. It's neat being in a group of fellowb Ninja Turtle lovers.

Not everyone had access to everything the same way as today, so we still had a lot of discussions like What episode was that? or What happened in that Season 3 episode. Last edited by Original TMNT Cartoon Fan; 10-11-2024 at 02:04 PM. |

It was great to see other perspectives, hear of different experiences, and learn new things. It was even better to make actual friends, who were absolutely the reason I kept coming back. Sure, I've butted heads with a few people, too, but the good definitely outweighs the bad.
