A real life mutant Turtle. (A Tortoise actually)

Meet Bon-Chan, kind of a local celebrity in Tokyo.

Bon-Chan is an African Sulcata Tortoise but an extraordinary large one, far bigger than any others of his species. Apparently this came from a mutation which made it that his spine never fused, which made it that he continues to grow. At 140 pounds, he's also the heaviest of his kind.

His owner Mr. Mitani, has already gotten the nickname "Kame-sennin" (Turtle Hermit) after Muten Roshi from Dragon Ball.

Looking at Bon-chan I start to see where the inspiration behind the design of the 2012 version of Slash came from.

That looks more like Muten Roshi's tortoise! He lost his way back to the Kame House!

That doesn't seem too uncommon. I've seen ENORMOUS sulcatas. They never stop growing.

Wow, quite the big one.

Neat species. A local aquarium store owner has one, named Roger. He made a bit of a name for himself, too, locally, after he wandered away from the shop for a few days some years ago, but he wasn't anywhere near that big! I imagine if Bon-Chan tried to wander off it might be easier to spot him. lol
