Snapping turtles: Slash vs. Tokka potential evidence

So I know there's been a bit of discussion about how can Slash and Tokka both be snapping turtles (particularly in the IDW-verse) and I've found a video that explains the differences between the common and alligator varieties of the species and although there's obviously no reference to the two characters it does highlight the visual differences (and a little bit of the personality differences, ie: aggressiveness and maturity traits) and I think it comfortably backs up the assertion that Slash is of the common variety and Tokka is an alligator snapping turtle.

Now if only there was some explanation for why mutated snapping turtles get so big compared to other larger animals...
