TMNT Tiny Arcade first review
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phelRhyaR1w
I've been really looking forward to this keychain-sized Super Impulse "Turtle Fighter" version of the original TMNT arcade game since at least March, but there is bad news to report. Although the review is favorable -- with caveats -- there's a lot about this item that will disappoint. * The frame rate is very slow and choppy. * Gameplay is very unfaithful, with poorly imitated movements and animation. * It doesn't use the real music. * Jump and Attack controls were split up between 4 buttons, divided for left and right. * The review says only Leonardo is playable, but he plays as Donatello, so idk. * May be only 3 levels according to review. It's extremely obvious that the game is re-created from scratch, not using any original code. It still might be worth owning as just a fun trinket, but be aware what you're getting. |

Well for a lot of those negatives I don't think it matters, people aren't actually going to be playing the arcade game on that device, it's more of the amusing value that you have the game on a small arcade. In fact the fact that the game is apparently easier is better since it'd be the only way to finish the game with those controls. I'm surprised it's a recreation instead of a ROM dump, I wonder why they're doing that, surely it was cheaper to edit a rom to get rid of the music and I'm sure they had to pay Konami licensing fees for recreating it anyway. What I wanted to actually know is how well that arcade scaled with 3.75" figures since it's the only reason I'd ever get it.

It is still better than those 1.5 inch World’s Smallest Toys TMNT figures.

Not very well at all, I'd say. And bear in mind, the control panel on the TMNT is even lower than the rest. Last edited by garsh; 09-06-2020 at 08:06 PM. |

Seems like the technology isn't "quite there" for this sort of release... at least not for the price point.
I imagine this is how the game must have played on Amiga and other home computer ports back in the day.

I have a couple of these, and they scale just fine for my figs. A little short on the controls, but it really just means they don't have to have the hands very high.

So, it’s only 3 levels? I was hoping to pick one up for my cousin who grew up in the HW Bush era.

I got one mostly as a prop/novelty. I love it for that, but the game play is TERRIBLE.
