Arcade Game manual oddity

Here's some food for thought. The game manual for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game makes mention of Shredder having fallen into a garbage truck; a reference to the events of the 1990 film rather than the previous game. I found that odd as a kid but later I learned the writing of manuals for U.S. releases of Japanese games were usually sourced to third party companies who had little to no lines of communication with the developers. Strange as this may seem now, at the time that’s how it was done. I’m guessing whoever wrote this summary was working off of a generic knowledge of the franchise and hadn't been given much to work with as far as the game’s backstory.

Not quite the same thing, but most or all of those novels "based on the movie" that used to be all over the bookstores were written before the movies came out, by people who had never seen the scripts.

The funny part is, while the arcade was pretty much 'Shredder kidnaps April and later Splinter, Turtles go save them' the NES version went full on with the sequel idea. Shredder wanting revenge, training the Foot Soldiers in the art of Tae Kwon Do, hiring the two most dangerous bounty hunters in the galaxy and all that jazz.

Wow, it sure does say that. I never noticed that before. In the first video game, the scene where the turtles return home right after saving the water dam, only to find Splinter has been taken. That always reminded me of that same thing happening in the first movie.

I remember back in the day when the first movie was announced, the papers would say it was based on the popular cartoon and Nintendo game. When I saw that cut scene in the game I figured they probably meant that.
