Noma Dumezweni is actually going to be playing Carlotta, the housekeeper of Prince Eric's castle. Jude Akuwudike has also been cast as Grimsby, Eric's confidant.

The actors who are playing Ariel and Eric are in Sardinia right now. They are rehearsing for the "Part of Your World Resprise" scene. We also have our first look at Ariel's hairstyle.

Spoiler:

Plenty of photos from outdoor scenes have surfaced.

Spoiler:
So, it looks like when Ariel becomes human she will have to sneak into Eric's castle instead of him just inviting her to stay there after he meets her on the beach.

Here are some more.

Spoiler:
These might be after Ariel flees after rescuing Eric and singing to him. We have our first look at Carlotta and Grimsby.

The other day it appeared that they were filming the "Kiss the Girl" scene.

https://thedisinsider.com/2021/06/29...girl-sequence/

Jodi Benson and Christopher Daniel Barnes from the original movie shared what advice they would give to the actors for this film. Just a heads up, Jodi's answer is much longer than Chris's is, but I don't have a problem with that because I know how much the franchise means to her. 32:47 to 37:00.

She almost looks like she's nude. Man they probably didn't realize how making this movie in live-action and all the sexual innuendo of a half-naked teen girl on the beach.

Wow, I didn't think we'd have to wait this long for the movie.

After wrapping filming on the remake over the summer, Disney's live-action Little Mermaid swims to Memorial Day weekend with an opening day set for May 26, 2023.
Maybe they are waiting until 2023 because the special effects and CGI are probably going to take a long time or maybe next year is just too crowded. They probably also want to have some kind of big event/presentation of the film at 2022 D23 Expo. I think the film probably would've been released in 2022 had the Covid-19 Pandemic never happened.

2023? By then the actress they cast will have doubled her age. Isn't Aerial still supposed to be 16 years old in this?

Wow, Rob Marshall clearly knew what he was doing when he cast Halle Bailey in the role. She has a very lovely voice. Now I am curious to see what her acting will be like.

Lin-Manuel Miranda says that all of the classic songs will be in the movie.

Quote:
“So much of my work on The Little Mermaid was that wish fulfillment. I actually didn’t write any new songs for Sebastian the Crab because I love his songs so much. I was like, “I can’t. Nope, not me. I can’t do it.” I did get to write for some of the other characters in that movie. Every song you love in The Little Mermaid is still in The Little Mermaid, we just found some new moments to musicalize. That’s really tricky.”

Halle Bailey was also doing some work on the film the other day.

Redheads are usually white and very beautiful. Can't have that in an age of SJW - can't keep white people looking beautiful, when we all know they are inherently racist sexist monsters, just waiting to humiliate and exterminate other races! /s

If you've never cared about Disney changing Ariel's ethnicity or even cared enough to know it was changed in the 90s animated movie from the original story then I don't see why you should care about them changing her race.

If you're one of those people that drone on that the original story never specified her ethnicity and we're all just assuming she's Danish or Greek that's fine but it doesn't specify her race either...so again why do you care.

If the original story never specified, how was it changed for Disney's original take? Hmmmmmm. Lol.

Would you say the same if it was a historically black/person of color was suddenly white washed today? The problem is lack of creativity to just change any existing characters race/ethnicity to fill a quota. All of Hollyweird/Disney's recently "updated" live action flicks have been erasing/replacing white characters.

Like I've said elsewhere, that to me is always the test. Whether we're talking about sexual preference, race, gender, or otherwise, if we were to pretend to take an established GAY character and make them straight in something else, would that be OK? Would it be OK to take an established BLACK character and make them white in something else? If the answer is no and they agree it is no, then it is equally wrong for them to do the opposite by their own rulebook.
