Funny Technodrome anecdote from Llyod Goldfine
Mr. Goldfine was recently on the Turtle Tracks podcast and did a great interview: https://m.soundcloud.com/turtletrack...urtles-forever
He shared a story about anonymously posting here as the user Mortu after Peter insisted he come check it out: https://forums.thetechnodrome.com/sh...&postcount=178 The punchline of the story is that immediately after posting the above message, one of the shows writers (Marty Isenberg) called him up and accused him of being Mortu lol. The whole episode is worth a listen though! |

I do feel sorry for any curious podcast-listener trying to stumble onto the Drome today though.

Heh, what a small world (wide-web).
I seem to remember when users here would speculate who was a covert "official" TMNT creative.

The plants were always so obvious.
Peter Laird also posted here, I think all of twice. I think the username was "planetracer." I'll let someone else do the legwork on that one.

Thanks for posting this. The highlights:
- Goldfine heard that Mirage was listening to pitches for a new turtles show. He thought this was a great opportunity for 4Kids to produce its first show. He heard that other companies were pitching contemporized versions (e.g., April and Casey as teens... come to think of it isn't every recent incarnation doing this now?) and he wanted 4Kids to bring a different idea to Mirage: the original comics as a TV show. They knew Peter Laird was disappointed in recent adaptations and figured something based on his comics would appeal to him. - They decided early that Shredder would change every season or so (Oroku Saki, Utrom Karai, Demon, Cyber) because Laird was personally bored with this character. Laird agreed that changing Shredder's identity or backstory regularly would be fun. Utrom Shredder was one of the first story decisions they made. - The extended story arcs were inspired by his time localizing Yugioh, which is a never-ending serial. 4Kids had control of their Saturday morning block ("renting" it from Fox) and could program the arcs chronologically. - They wrote Leonardo with the knowledge that he is nobody's favorite turtle, emphasizing his "big brother" personality to make him endearing. Raph was written as somebody whom the audience wanted to "help", or give emotional support to because he's always angry. Mike was written as a "needy" character who sought affirmation. Don was easy as the tech guy. - The ninja tribunal season came about when toy companies lobbied for more influence, so the turtles were redesigned with tattoos and markings. The toy companies quickly changed their minds afterwards and wanted a sci-fi spin (which became Fast Forward), so the tribunal season was shelved in favor of fast-tracking FF. Then the toy companies wanted to pivot back to the old setting (Back to the Sewer) but further redesigns and a happier tone. Goldfine was busier at this point and had less attention on TMNT's development, and regrets the toy companies' influence. - Goldfine volunteered "Same as it Never Was" and "Turtles Forever" as his favorite episodes. TF was written from the outset with the understanding that it was a finale. They'd wanted to team up with the '87 turtles for a long time but hadn't had the opportunity. He does acknowledge that their characterization of the '87 team was too silly. |

Interesting, a lot of that stuff we already pretty much assumed or speculated about, but glad to see it all confirmed.
