now if only they'd take that Turtles in Time Slash head and put it on this Tokka body...and give it an Archie colorway...without pixels...we'd have probably the definitive Slash figure.

Huh, guess I never noticed how similar the toon-designs for the Slash and Tokka bodies are. They are definitely cut from the same model sheet.

for sure. my guess is this: the Slash Playmates toy came in 1990, and then the Tokka Playmates toy came out in 1991, which used the same mold as Slash, just with a different head and paintjob. the episode Tokka was in came out in 1993, and the cartoon appearance was based pretty heavily off of the toy, which was based pretty heavily off of the Slash toy.

Even though I had both toys, my preferred Tokka figure was the Mutations variant, and I've had Mutatin' Tokka and Rahzar on my desk for well over a decade. So maybe if I looked at the original two releases simultaneously, I'd have noticed.

Ironically, the Mutations figures for Tokka and Rahzar probably resulted in the best versions of their figures, while human-proportioned characters like Splinter, Shredder, and (especially) April got the shaft [although the Varner Studios concept would have been an improvement if followed by the molders].
