Wasn't following this movie, but was kinda stoked to see the guy from Kim's Convenience is the lead.

Why would they "forget" if that was the idea? There's like one movie between them, clearly they would have written her in if that was the case.

Well, I think early somewhere along the line that was the plan. Then they remembered... oh, right... China. And opted her out of the Avengers movies but remained a part of Ragnarok.

Even down to using a character as the villain who got three panels in the comic before committing suicide, and making said villain a "rich white guy" because... you know... that's more acceptable evil in today's America than a fictional Asian powerhouse crimelord.
I guess this is the kinda thing they could get away with when it comes to obscure characters. Like I was legit surprised when Staine betrayed Tony cause until the movie I have never heard of Obediah Staine. It's not like a Batman movie if they have some college friend of Bruce named Oswald Cobblepot, everyone woulda seen the double-cross coming a mile away.

But yeah.... what they did with Mandarin is the DC equivalent of...

Having the Joker turn out to be some bum hired to play the character to distract Gotham paid by the Penguin or whoever the real villain of the movie would be.

Batman dies defeating Darkseid.

Later on they make some Plasticman movie or Blue Beetle movie or whatever and the real Joker emerges in that one. And there ya go, one huge missed opportunity.

They only (somewhat) got away with it because only hardcore Marvel and Iron Man fans knew who the Mandarin was, normies didn't. But DC would never have been able to get away with making the Joker a random bum and then have Blue Beetle face him instead after Batman is dead and gone in that movie continuity.

I wonder if Trevor shows up to any degree. I think he will. They can't not address the elephant in the room about the Mandarin as it concerns Iron Man 1, 3, and "All Hail the King" especially.

And now I'm thinking about Trevor asking the real Mandarin for a beer.

I read somewhere that the identity thing is addressed. I also read less than promising statements from the director about how the Mandarin won't be what we expect, and bla bla bla.

People can think what they want about my decision to most likely not pay to see this movie, but all I can say is that point of view isn't purely because I'm jaded about the Mandarin on film, but mostly because of all of the BS nonsense and walking on broken glass that has come along with it from the Studios for years now.

Pretty much the only thing that could guarantee I'd pay to go see this one is to find out that Iron Man shows up and fights the real Mandarin in the background while Shang-Chi fights his Dad or whatever.

On that note, also incredibly sick and tired of the "family connections" or the "the bad guy knows me intimately" in super hero flicks, man. Ugh.

Yeah... I mean sometimes random villains just gotta be random villains. It's like most of the greatest villains do have some sort of connection with the hero.... or if they don't then the movies feel the need to make up one. It all started with Joker killing Bruce's parents in Batman 88.

This is just some fanboy wank, but it would be really cool to have a tournament in this movie, featuring an assortment of Marvel characters, some well known, some we've met before in the films, and some we haven't. Yeah, it'd just be little cameos and set up for future films, but if done tastefully, it'd be pretty fun.
Similar to how Hulk shoes up in Thor Ragnarok, had it not been shown in the trailers - you have Shang-Chi show up to meet his opponent and it's fkn Silver Samurai, Moon Knight, or even Stick.

Maybe Mortal Kombat hype just got to me, but I want to see a Marvel fighting tournament and I want to be introduced to more Marvel characters in the films.

Serves Marvel right if it's true after all of the bowing down to China's totalitarian propaganda nonsense Marvel did and tried to polish with "PC" press. You can't polish a turd.

China saying "f*** off" to Disney -- or any big studios -- is really the best thing that we can hope for.

Its my understanding that some people in China are still on the fence regarding Shang-Chi, Because they think they are just pandering to Asian culture.

I just wish Hollywood would stop bending over for China. I mean I'm sure they can barely feel it, but it's still a humiliating position to put themselves in all the time. Who gives a flying **** what China thinks. Stop relying on their money.

From the moment Hollywood went, "Oh wow... a LOT of money can be made in China if we play our cards right!" movies (well, the big blockbusters generally) have taken a hard hit.

I mean, it's hard to ignore a country that has about 80 zillion people in it.

For better or worse, those nickels add up.

I agree, though, it shouldn't be the way it is. Just saying, it makes sense.
