Karai's fighting stance is heavily inspired from Tournament Fighters too.

More background characters were spotted in the DLC, And also one of the levels takes place in the Mirage universe.

Mutagen Man, Mona Lisa, Carter, Zack, Irma, Antrax, Mondo Gecko and Halfcourt.

Mondo Gecko and Halfcourt are in the black and white Mirage universe stages.

The fact that Karai looks pretty much the same as her 4Kids counterpart… Well, I know it was either picking the first time she was actually in a show or something that never used in a TV show at all (I'm betting the 2012 and Rise depictions would be a little too awkward here)… It's just that gives me a similar vibe to when she was in the PR crossover comics, the ones that literally went with white Stockman, certainly sticks out a bit.

Still, here's hoping to Bishop.

Unfortunately I think that ship has sailed. She's been Shredder's daughter/subordinate in so many incarnations that it's the Mirage version that is the outlier, even if that's the original.

She's Splinter's daughter in the 2012 series.

Pretty awesome. Missed chance to use Lotus instead, but they probably couldn't help themselves to throw in some Karai Tournament Fighter references in there.

Not sure what to think of the cameo-fest. It just kinda shows the characters that WON'T be playable. Like, there went any chances of Mondo Gecko or Venus being playable.

With all these cameos being characters from other TMNT universes (primarily Archie I suppose), I wonder if "Dimension Shellshock" is some kind of multiversal thing?

Same egg, different side.

I think using Karai was a right move - she is certainly more known than Lotus (even though Lotus predates her and probably was her inspiration). And its not like she doesn't have any connection to the FW era - she was in Tournament Fighters games, which were more amalgam universes of everything and a kitchen sink. I wish she had her SNES design, but whatever.

It is not a rocket science to program game to remove characters in the background, if they are used by a player (look at the fighting games, for example). So there is tiny hope, that if there are more DLC, maybe cameos can become playable characters.

I mean, they even remembered that Carter was a thing, so, who knows...though I would have been very interested to see FW interpretation of Venus.

I doubt we're getting more DLC after this so it doesn't matter. Usagi and Karai are the best choices for new playable characters. I'm sure the developer has moved on with their next game/project. I don't expect another TMNT game from them either, they're probably working on another licensed project.

Yeah, I believe the developers have said as much. (Hence why the DLC characters are Usagi and Karai, characters from other universes.)

Which truthfully, is a bit of a shame. I'm sure the licensing allowed the team to have one shot with this, and they made one hell of a total game. Would've loved to have seen what a sequel would've included, but I guess never say never if Nickelodeon wants to try and do a second round.

It's a curious time for these things.
Shedder's Revenge was a bit of a risk but came out only after Tribute's push to get projects D O N E being released months after they FINALLY got Windjammers 2 out.

But the project only really happened because Streets of Rage 4 was such a success. It's a shame we didn't get a game on that level.

But this DLC is an interesting addition, whereas the character additions are cool, though a bummer we didn't get Jennika somehow it will be interesting to see how this procedural mode works? I think leaning heavier into mixing things up and interplay with coop will really help the game sing. Busting through to level characters up and try for a hard playthrough on the arcade which was literally just the same game again with nothing mixed up except not navigating the world map caused a lot of burnout.

Honestly, I'd rather see Tribute take the money and do something fresh. They put out great games, but they hit belt scroller hard enough for now. With another studio doing Toxic Avengers, I really think we could see another studio pick up the TMNT and do something fresh soon, though it would probably be based on Mutant Mayham's Miyu.

Also with the Last Ronin coming, and will probably be delayed, IDK how many other Turtles games we'll get. The worry of oversaturation would be there, silly though that may be given how different the games are.

Good. **** this noise.
I'd take Venus, though. Not an IDW one, obviously.

wut
What oversaturation?

Like, two games in entirely different genres and visual styles, based on different incarnations of the series are not a ****ing oversaturation by even the most wild ****ing margin.

Not to mention by the time, when (and if) Last Ronin game will be released, Shredder's Revenge would be finished for a year or two or three, given that Last Ronin is rumored to be released in 2025 at the very least.

But, yeah, market would be totally oversaturated by TWO TMNT games, one of which will be 3-4 years old and most likely without support.

WTF, some people are smoking!?

Karai is a fan favorite character and known by "casuals" nowadays so I underestand but it could've been cool to retcon it with "Karai alias Lotus Blossom" joins the fight.

The cameos make you wish for so much more but I guess I prefer having them as cameos than them not appear at all.

Spoiler:
This is actually the second time we get a 1987 version of Karai, the first one is from that mobile game that came out 2 years ago or so. This one looks very 2k3 inspired, it'd be cool if she's actually from that 2003 instead of an OT version of her.
still rooting for that 0.01% chance of Venus de Milo being included.

They definitely moved on and won't get more DLC. But who knows if sales are much much higher than anything else they might've done then perhaps after their next project is finished they'd make a Shredder's Revenge 2, it depends on many factors. I'd say it's 50/50 on whether we get another game or not and if we do it won't be for a while.

I kinda wonder what name would be most likely picked for a sequel, "Krang's Komeback" or "Dregg's Deadly Directive" ?

I mean Shredder's Revenge isn't alliterative so it's not necessary. Also it's so weird that other than having Super Shreds as the final boss, the game really was more of a Krang's Revenge than anything else. The entire plot centered around restoring his body as a diversion so that he could put his plan together undeterred.

I wouldn't be surprised if they're working on an X-men game next to tie-in the X-men 97 cartoon coming out soon. Either that or something like a sequel to the Simpsons Arcade game would be cool.

Yeah, I always took the title to mean Shredder was just hoping to get everyone defeated cause he got tired of getting beat in the previous games ... meanwhile Krang is always doing that side hustle to try and take over earth, haha.

I would be 100% into a sequel that followed a similar format, but added in some new elements as well as a bunch of new baddies to fight. Honestly, next to whatever the Last Ronin game ends up being ... that's my biggest TMNT gaming wish is just a bigger sequel to Shredder's Revenge. I just don't feel we're going to get that though as the DLC does feel like it's DotEmu and Tribute's farewell to this series.

That would be cool, but I have a feeling Tribute might not want to be squarely known as the licensed beat 'em up revival company. While I'm not a fan of the Scott Pilgrim game, I know it has its followers but I just have a feeling we'll be seeing something original from them in the future.

I'm all in on SOMEONE making a X-Men '97 inspired beat 'em up though.

On the other hand, they now have this ready made, polished beat'em up engine, ready to go.

And yeah, I think I'd get a kick out of a new Simpsons arcade game being given the same treatment as Shredder's Revenge vs. Shredder's Revenge itself. As long as they get all the voices in there.

Very true! Honestly, I'd also love just a chance to be able to play the old Simpsons or X-Men arcade games again these days without having to get out my Raspberry Pi or buy an Arcade1Up, haha.
