Archie animated movies.
Hey all, the recent Batman crossover animated film got me to thinking. Since people are talking about Fred Wolf inspired films around here, I thought I might bring up the other side of that 80's turtle coin; what about adaptations of some of the Archie story arcs? I would love to see adaptations of stories like midnight sun, or the turnstone saga, or even the world tour stories. Imagine those tales animated fred wolf style, without the kid- friendly constraints on the fighting and content. What would every one else think of that? And I know there has already been discussion about mirage animated films, but while that is an amazing idea, this thread is about the possibility of an Archie film.

I'd love to see them adapt the Archie comics, but as an animated series.

I’d love to see the Forever War, originally as intended in that format

A TMNT adventures animated series would have been great in early 90s. Really, really great!

If this was 25 years ago, sure, but it's too late.

If done right, I'm sure it'd be a treat.
I'm always hesitant of animated adaptions though. I think of those DC animated films and how neutered they are in comparison to the source. The comic book artwork is special and conveys a tone and atmosphere that the animated adaptions miss out on. Thatd be okay if the animation was lush and beautiful, but it's just passable. Sure, it's cool to have a soundtrack and voice acting, but you lose too much in the process. I'm using those animated adaption as a point of reference, but I'm not inherently against seeing the Archie stories brought to life in animation if they can find a way to capture what is special about them of improve upon them. |

Nah man - two factors to that.
1) Our generation (plus or minus on the "our" but you get it, I'm sure) eats that stuff up. 2) the current young generation who all think they are the first to experience anything on Earth wouldn't even know that it was dated. It's so far gone it'd be brand new all over again, especially because that material never saw a single piece of media outside of an Archie publication. |

I'd be fine with that.

Archie is probably one of the most overlooked TMNT multiverse branches. I'd love anything that gives it a little love.

That being said, I'd prefer it if IDW were to publish a continuation of the Archie series.

Not necessarily. If you go back and read those issues of the Archie adaptation, there were some noticeable changes made to certain scenes, and in the case of "The Incredible Shrinking Turtles" they even added a scene where Baxter Stockman showed up disguised as a police officer to "confiscate" the shrunk buildings.

I read a few of the archie Ninja Turtle comics and they were very entertaining..... I would love to see someone pick this up into a cartoon or movie of some type... I doubt it will happen but fun to think about. A few years ago, there was a comic convention in my city and they had quite a few of the comics that I picked up for a really good deal.

The thing is, is there a market for this? It's sort of a niche within a niche. Only so many people grew up with this version of the turtles, and it wasn't as available worldwide which an animated show would try to appeal to as well. What countries got the archie comic? The UK got it but it was in a different format right? How popular was it there? I know Mexico got it but eventually they started doing their own original stories fairly early right? I believe Argentina got the comic as well but don't know if it's just the same as the mexican comic or if they actually had a different translation.
