France riots over leftist fuel taxes
https://www.mercurynews.com/2018/12/...fully-worried/ "The idea of socialism has always been that taxes can be high and even increase so long as the masses believe they are receiving increasing amounts of “free stuff.” It was thought there can be no upper limit to taxes. Apparently, the limit has been reached, and the French have expressed their anger in rioting."

It's funny: French government has proposed new taxes to allow for more environment friendly cars and gasoline. But apparently progressive society can only be progressive as long as they don't need to pay for progress themselves.
Go figure. |

That's actually a pretty astute way of looking at it.

France always liked to riot and go on strike.
Oh well, at least they fight. Here in Portugal we also have high car and fuel taxes. Since like the 1980s that people who live near the border go to Spain to put fuel in their cars. Yet we don't revolt. We really are a people that likes to get screwed by the politicians. |

For someone who always rags on fake news you sure like to do the same Andrew. A countries politics are difficult to understand without living there and knowing the real situation, I've learned a lot about French politics the last 2 years and I don't understand. I had a French teacher that just last year told us stuff like this happened in france every 60 years and it was going to happen again soon It's like tradition. It's amusing seeing people try to spin it here to further their political agenda here when it's apolitical over there.
