UnitedHealth CEO assassinated

https://www.cnn.com/us/live-news/uni...-24/index.html

https://www.foxnews.com/us/unitedhea...laying-sources

Apparently the killer used a fake ID and paid in cash to stay at the hostel he did. Also, used a burner phone (to call who?).

100 percent a hired hitman.

No idea about motive though.

Might be something to do with this...

In related news, Anthem has already decided to roll back its decision to time limit coverage on anaestesia use in operations based on expected duration of said procedures.

They view the world through the internet. It’s just a meme to them.

It really is. Like if tomorrow the headline was, "Biden assassinated" or "Nancy Pelosi assassinated" I wouldn't be grinning or laughing and fist pumping. I'd decry it and feel bad all around because that shouldn't be happening. But these people really seem to have the religion that, anyone that is remotely an "enemy" of their worldview... well, they just ought to be dead. It's childish and reprehensible and horrible. These kind of people should never, ever be trusted to have power.

I don’t think the right-wingers and libertarians are exactly mourning this guy. The mainstream media is blowing this up because he is a rich CEO. Meanwhile, the average person is trying to figure how they’re going to afford their groceries as well as Christmas presents.

Keep in mind, big pharma hasn’t been kind and fair to the People. I’m not at all condoning what this assassin did. I’m just saying, they are bringing this upon themselves with their greed.

This is kind of betraying a pretty big ignorance in how healthcare actually works.

The US healthcare system is a joke. Other countries treat their citizens better when it comes to their medical needs and coverage, and we’re supposed to be the “model” country for them to admire and envy?

That's been all of human history. Some are just more honest about it than others.

Shredder and Krang combined had the biggest arsenal of any villains in all of the cartoons.

Oh wow, I didn't think we'd fully agree on something one day.

The fact is, he was the head of an incredibly unpopular health insurer with a track record of rejecting a third of all claims automatically, earned over $10M last year, and likely caused thousands of deaths as a result of rejecting covering vital operations and procedures. The fact few people are mourning this assassination is completely telling.

Neither did I

You might not be, but I can easily bet a whole swathe of MAGA cultists would.

That's not the way it works and he's certainly not the avatar of any of those things.

I think there's a radically big difference between not mourning the guy and actively celebrating his assassination. I didn't realize it even needed to be said, but then again... here we are.

What is "actively celebrating" in this case? Some idiots on facebook posting firework emojis or people literally dancing in the streets?

I've barely paid a moments attention to this story, and it's a shame that anyone would be murdered -- well, maybe with some exceptions for ridding the world of terrorists, serial killers, etc -- but if those denials numbers are legit... it would not surprise me at all if the guy is some angry, unstable nut who has a now-deceased family member who was denied. It's so random of a target to choose otherwise, like you'd have to be pretty invested to even care who the CEO was, huh?

As for anyone supposedly "celebrating"... On one hand, yeah, it's kind of low if so, they're forgetting the human side of a murder. On the other, people feel poorly about our healthcare system and these companies, who profit well from it, who forget the human side themselves, esp when they deny or limit potentially lifesaving treatments. This guy's death won't change how it's run, so it's only a potentially empty sense of "sticking it to them."

Fake ID and burner phone suggest hired by someone, which is the angle the authorities are looking at.

The U.S. Healthcare system is actually a free-market marvel but I don't expect literally ANYONE here to be able to compute that in it's entirety.

The U.S. insurance and coverage system on the other hand is highly problematic and is a mismatch of free-market solutions vs consumer expectations. Another point I don't expect literally ANYONE here to be to compute in it's entirety.

It's a very complex engine in a free-market solutions situation. The best thing that consumers in the U.S. can learn about "healthcare" is to equate it more like Wal-Mart vs Target. It's all just a place of business and you can leverage that, but people don't do it because there's this "mystique" that "Doctors are there to help you so you 'just' go to one".

Basically the biggest problem with U.S. healthcare are American citizens who put zero effort into understanding it. Most of the other problems actually fall underneath that, but again I don't expect anyone here to truly wrap their heads around that or want to wrap their head's around it.

But if you know how to use the healthcare system to the best of your ability we easily have the best in the world.

Same people that wished all the unvaccinated would just drop dead.

'Get the shot or get shot". and all that.

Healthcare should be a right not a privilege. You pay for a privilege. The only privilege here is that you have the choice to use the NHS or go private.

And besides, the survival rates for a number of chronic conditions suggests otherwise re America having the best healthcare system. So you’re sometimes paying through the nose and still not getting as good care as many other countries.
