TMNT Urban Legends conclusion vs the "unofficial" 24/25 issues by Andrew et al?
Hi everyone,
Sorry if this was explained earlier. I just noticed that IDW published a continuation of the TMNT Vol. 3 image series last year and the second trade is coming out in May. I had some questions NO SPOILERS please 1) Is the Urban Legends last 3 issues basically a cut and paste of those unofficial issues in terms of story or is it a wholly new take? I never read the unofficial 24/25 , but from what I gather Gary and Frank gave their notes to other folks to interpret them since there were legal barriers put in place by Viacom. 2) If it is new, in your opinions, is it about the same , better, or worse than the unofficial 24/25? 3) How is the color in the UL issues/trade? Thanks. |

I usually tend to prioritize the original look of a work, but I must admit the coloring in the new IDW Urban Legends release is very good and makes a lot of pages more clear. Is it better than the original version? Not necessarely, it depends on how much fond of the original look you are. I will probably go with this new version whenever I decide to read the series for the first time.

The storyline of the official conclusion is completely different than Andrew's. They go in different directions entirely. It's also well worth it.

All I will say was that it was very gratifying to work with Gary Carlson on the last 3 issues at IDW that became the new and official conclusion. He didn't have to include me by any means, but he did.

I think I prefer the Modeen conclusion. Glad we have both options though!

I wish IDW had done the final 3 issues in black and white so they would fit in better for folks who have the Image run as I think Turtles is far more enjoyable that way. Plus I hate the color coding.

In a way it helps it flow from Vol. 2 better. Which was in color.

True, considering a lot of people were only interested in those final issues.

I didn't realise you had input, seems like you were credited with "Special thanks" for "Inspiration and advice". What kind of advice did you give?

Andrew, yeah vol 2 was in color but it was done by Mirage and it looks better than the IDW color classics reprint material. |

Didn't IDW redo the coloring of Volume 2 for their reprint? The original colors of Volume 2 were weird, especially after the first issue.
One question: Does the new ending for Volume 3 try to connect to Volume 4? Last edited by frank_one; 03-13-2021 at 03:46 PM. |

Knowing how much IDW reprints stuff, I wouldn't be surprised if they do a black and white collected run of Image sometime down the line.

Not directly, no. Vol 3 sort of ties up most open threads & readjusts a couple things but doesn't really go against anything specified in volume 4.
