I made a video pointing out the inaccuracies I noticed with this Tmnt movie star 6 pack. If you noticed anything else let me know. everyone knows right off the bat that Splinter is just an 88 repaint, but I also noticed all of the turtles use the same Leonardo body which is a bummer.

Same Leo body? Didn't they all share the same body even back in the day?

Nope, they had different arms, legs and shells. The shells have different scrapes on them. The arms and legs are sculpted in different poses And some of the feet are arched.

I guess I assumed the shell piece was the same across all 4 of them

-Super Shredder and Movie Star Splinter are basic wave figures coming on turtle variant cards.

-Playmates added Movie Star to Super Shredder for this release.

- The Movie Star turtles and Splinter come with the 1st basic wave accessories for Splinter and the turtles.

- The skin tones of the Movie Star turtles are off.

- Movie Star Leo’s bandana is different for this release.

wow...

it is sad when the KO set on ebay and amazon are better versions or at least on par with this set.

at least the KO splinter is the correct sculpt and the turtles have movie accessories.

These turtles use the same bodies and come with the orignal turtles' weapons.

Splinter is just a repaint of the original figure.

The only one close to correct is Shredder.

Christ that is just lazy.

If playmates has just repainted the original turtles in a movie styled decco at least that would be unique and interesting.

They look very weird with those legs and giant spots. Splinter eyes are... unpleasant.

Yeah Leo’s bandana is off. I mentioned the weapons in my video, but didn’t mention it above. I probably would have bought the set even if they had all the same bodies, but if they at least gave them all the correct movie accessories. Splinter is a big let down too. I can see recoloring the 1988 Splinter as a mirage Splinter because he has those Mirage kind of eyes that Eastman and Laird draw a lot, but his design doesn’t fit in with the movie turtles at all. Unless you were a poor kid like me back in the 90s and you had to use him instead of a real movie star Splinter haha.

Ok, I've been a little too harsh. The more I look at the turtles the more I think they are actually ok and not so different from the originals, Mike is the only one that is really weird. It's a pity they all share the same body.
Like with other rereleases by Playmates these are good for collectors who want cheap figures for custom projects or to repaint.

Well, at least, the Movie Star set doesn’t have oversized rotocast heads. That would add insult to injury.

The current playmates strategy seems to be to use old molds and release them at the cheapest rate possible in limited quantities and it seems to be quite profitable. They aren't spending much money on any of these, just the minimum and people are buying the complete stock. I wonder what the profit margins are on these re-releases. I'm sure they'll continue to release them since it's quite profitable for them.

Nothing screams out to be collected like a box-set with nice packaging. These figures are abominations, but even I am tempted by some of these boxes. Especially because you don't see a lot of that old school Playmates style TMNT art these days.
