Older people and TMNT
What do older people know about TMNT? With older people, I mean those who were or could have been grandparents of children liking TMNT.
Did your grandparents knew anything you told them? (basic facts like which turtle has which colour in the bandana, which weapons they carry, their names, their friends and enemies, from which country Hamato Yosho-Splinter came, in which city the turtles live) Of course, it depends on what their grandchildren told them, but it may have been important for them while buying Christmas presents and birthday presents. |

I don't think my grandparents ever knew too much. Maybe some other people's did, but I can't imagine mine ever even buying any for me. Modern pop culture toys weren't really a thing they stepped foot into. More the classic gift type of people unless my mom helped out with ideas.
Now, as for my parent's generation... they're probably the real first generation grandparents who actually know a thing or two because they put up with their own kid's fandom and learned it from them. |

Then comes our generation, and playing TMNT films and episodes at retirement home begins!

Once when I was a kid, I went on a trip with my grandparents to my aunt and uncle's house. I was watching an episode of TMNT when my aunt asked "Which one is Krang?", and my grandfather said "Oh, the guy with the head in his stomach". I was amazed!

It's called Volume 4. (Although, I guess that's more like Laird and Lawson's AMNT).

My mum reads IDW, read Vol. 4/Tales vol. 2 when it was still going on, and watches all of the shows. While obviously not as "in" to it as me, she knows some characters that some people who stopped watching them after the 90s don't remember (Case in point, she was excited to see Mondo Gecko show up in the 2012 show, whereas a colleague of mine who was super into the 87 show but hadn't paid attention to the Turtles since didn't remember who that was).

Your mom sounds really cool. My parents knew about the trutles only because I got so heavily into them in middle school. But my dad only made fun of it, and my mom just kind of mildly acknowledged it.

My grandmother and my parents know very well who the Ninja Turtles are. They're one of the few "superheroes" they can name. TMNT might not be as big as Batman, Superman or Spider-Man or make as much revenue or garner as much respect... but you'd be VERY HARD PRESSED to find a human being on Earth that hasn't heard of them at all. Do most people know their names or can tell which is which? Most likely not, but mention Ninja Turtles to anyone and they'll know. I've never met a human being who doesn't know them.
Anyway, my grandmother and my parents have watched some episodes with me when I was a kid and have also watched the 3 live action movies from the 90s. They don't mind the Turtles, I'd say. |

Well I don't mean literally everyone on Earth. I'm sure North Koreans or some illiterate villagers in Afghanistan don't know who the TMNT are.
