God, the actors and effect better have been good because the script was awful. Not sure why they felt the need to make the new villain Voldemort's daughter, they could have made her a devoted follower or someone completely unrelated.

Basically, Rowling signed off on some guy's playwright fanfic because she knew it could make big bucks on Broadway. It's not actually written by Rowling, it's written with her approval. Big difference.

I still feel like the whole thing will be retconned at some point. It's a perfect example of why you never let fans create anything. The more diehard fan, the stupider things they come up with.

Doesn't have to be retconned. Just ignore it, like a lot of people already have.

Right now the film is tracking for an opening weekend somewhere between $65 million to $75 million. The first film opened with $74.4 million back in November 2016.

The date in question (1935) doesn't appear in the 7 canon books by Rowling, so I'm okay with it.
Authors get to tweak minor sh!t for later works. Now, turning Nagini into a woman (who ends up trapped in snake form)? THAT I'm MUCH less happy about. That's a bridge too far.

I thought the sequel was just all right. I was glad to see Hogwarts again, but I left the theater with lots of questions. Another problem was that this movie had too many twists happening too often. It did look great on IMAX though.

This movie wasn't exactly bad but was stupid as hell, it felt like I was watching a soap opera instead of a Harry Potter prequel.
Spoiler:
There are actually more but you get the point, it's kind of silly.

I really enjoyed the movie. My only problem was a certain character who joined the villain's side, I saw it coming even at the beginning of the movie, but still didn't like it.

My wife lives and breathes Harry Potter and even she has no interest in seeing it from the pretty much unanimous toxic reviews.

I rewatched the first one last night with Lady Cylons.
... Ooooooooooooooh boy, the rose-colored glasses really came off. Bad writing, plot holes, bad characterization and choices EVERYWHERE. If it weren't for the godsend of Jacob Kowalski, that movie would've tanked. And seeing how all the reviews paint a gnarly picture of the characters who worked the first time (Queenie, Newt), I think this train is already coming off the rails. Maybe a 3rd movie fixes it. Or probably it doesn't.

Last month, it was reported that production for the next movie has been delayed till this fall.
https://deadline.com/2019/01/fantast...ll-1202537147/ Dan Folger has revealed the reason why this has happened. Quote:
