Neither are the reasons comics are failing. Cape comics fail because they're boring, the reading order is confusing for newbies, it requires years of multiple backlogs to understands, and they offer no variety in storytelling ironically enough because they don't want to "scare" new readers.

Pretty much most comics are superheroes, while mangas got stories about sports, board games, relationships, fantasy, sci fi, in ADDITION to superhero stuff. No wonder Manga sells more than comics in the US and worldwide.

I switched out Detective Comics for Nightwing. Nightwing's arc makes it look like three different volumes in the same volume. This direction is definitely for the better with obvious reservations. So Dick and Barbara are back to will they/won't they probably will. Alfred is still dead and him being dead serves the direction the writer is going for since Alfred left the stocks he received in Wayne Enterprises for raising Bruce. An interesting note is the Wayne Foundation started as the Alfred Pennyworth Foundation during the three years Alfred was dead last time before changing its name to the Wayne Foundation when Bruce and Alfred relocated there in 1969.

Maroni seems to be an underboss of Blockbuster II so I wonder if Two Face will surface in Bludhaven before long. Maroni, Blockbuster II, and Bludhaven are all back from the dead so when Alfred comes back for a second time I wonder what Dick will rename it, The Grayson Foundation?

So Heartless has some connection to Dick Grayson, he somehow inspired Heartless and is the villain's next target. With this whole Melinda Zucco, paternal half-sister bit getting more personal connections right after it seems a bit much. Especially since we are going to focus on the next Bat event for the next 4ish issues.

Melinda seems to be a gray area that will be explored with a solid idea behind. What concerns me is a writer being taken off a title before their story is told and it will end up not fully fleshed out. That being said I hope that editorial interference will not happen and the writer does not drag things out too long. Not just with Melinda, but anything he has planned.

The Graysons targeted not just the example for a protection racket? I am sure there are people who don't like it. I will just go with it.

I like where its going, I just don't know how long it will hold because Dick Grayson can go in drastically different directions in a knee jerk instance. If he cannot be Robin or Batman this is a pretty solid direction.

In the various cameos in Nightwing#83 Superman asked Dick if he would look in on Jonathan while he is away for a while. Where is Superman disappearing to? It reminds me of how those of us who don't read Wonder Woman would not know why her mother is holding her spot on the Justice League.

Clark's headed off-world to deal with Mongol and Warworld. It's a big story that'll bleed over into 2022

So is War World intergalactic gladiatorial arena or is it the Deathstar? Will Hal be involved by any chance?

Also, is it Mongul or is it his son?

I think the current Mongol is his son, yeah. The one Bendis introduced.

Turns out Marvel recently tried to re-sign Bendis. He turned them down

Tynion reveals more about the early plans for the Bat-books when 5G was still being prepped. He confirms the Joker epilouge in Tom King's final issue was intended to lead to the 'last' Joker vs Batman story resulting in Joker's death. Bruce's face would have been permanently scarred, which would seemingly make it easy for people to connect the dots with his identity and force him into a permanent retirement.

He had suggested to other writers that each of the core Bat-books could focus on the end of a particular era. Nightwing would end the Robins, Catwoman would end Gotham's organized crime, Batgirl would close the door on the Gordon family etc.

Dark Knights of Steel is coming from Tom Taylor.

Quote:

Written by Tom Taylor (Nightwing, Injustice) with art by Yasmine Putri, Dark Knights of Steel takes place in a new DC medieval fantasy world where Batman isn't even the only familiar resident. This world will be changed when a spaceship crash-lands from a doomed planet. But what seems like the end of the world for many is only the beginning of this story. So yes, Superman and Wonder Woman will also be a part of this, along with Harley Quinn, Black Lightning, and more.

"I've spent the last two years creating a new epic fantasy universe for DC Comics, and Dark Knights of Steel is an absolute dream come true," Taylor told EW in a statement. "Despite being the writer of the DC horror series, DCeased, I'm actually a huge a fantasy fan. Combining two of my favorite things, DC superheroes and high fantasy, is my absolute happy place. I grew up reading Lord of the Rings alongside Superman. Terry Pratchett alongside Garth Ennis. Robin Hobb and Mark Waid. Dragonlance and Justice League. Now I get to bring all this together with the incredible Yasmine Putri, in the biggest story I could imagine. A tale of war and love, of despair and hope, of betrayal and improbable alliances forged in battle."

The Dark Knights of Steel might be fun.

Marvel did it with Iron Man through Layton's "Camelot" trilogy, then again in the first arc of Avengers vol 3 with Busiek and again later with Gaiman in Marvel's 1602 although that was more pirates and steampunk I suppose than pure "knights".

It's probably been done a dozen other times as well in other arcs that I can't recall to quote right now. Even DC has placed their characters in past-times situations before. Batman: Gotham By Gaslight for example.

Over in Batman '89: We learn Robin's name is 'Drake', and he gets his name from a crook said to be 'robbin' a store'. Selina shows up too, tailing Bruce for 'fun' and beating up/clawing a bunch of hoods in an alleyway. A fire breaks out at Drake's garage and Harvey dashes in to save him, but he ends up falling down a flight of stairs with a fuel tank tipped over spilling it's contents all over the burning floor where he fell

Barbara Gordon will be a supporting character directing Cassandra Cain and Stephanie Brown in Batgirls. Unfortunately I will not be picking it up. Like Green Lantern series I read for Hal Jordan alone.

Due to a lackluster current offering I have been hitting the back issue bin. I picked up the actual issues of JLA(1997-2006) arc World War III. Thoughts on the Morrison finale?

Also, would you say Hawkman is finally fixed? Thanagarian cop married to his patrol partner Shyera. Earth-1 had it best. Though his status of inconsistencies in origin have kept him from being a notable hero in DC.

Might pick it up. I like me some Steph Batgirl. Hopefully it won't be too woke.

So long as Barbara Gordon can be reoccurring in Nightwing its fine.

It's odd how Nightwing (2016) volume feels like 4 different volumes since it started. I hope that the current direction can keep up. I need a comic on the stands that I can enjoy.
