The Art of Batman/TMNT

i'm really happy with Freddie William's art that i've seen for the upcoming Batman/TMNT cross-over.

though recently i've been looking into the Art of Sean Murphy, since there is talk that he will be filling in on Batman when Artist Greg Capullo takes a break.

Sean's already done plenty of Batman art which has a nice gritty look to it

but then i was nicely surprised to see he made a piece of Ninja Turtle art as well

i'm looking to see if i can find anymore TMNT art that he might have made,
but so far this is it.

it just got me wondering what the Batman/TMNT cross-over might have been like had he don the art for it?

and then i started imagining if the cross-over does well, might we see more Batman/TMNT in the future?

it's just me letting my imagination get carried away.

but i thought that art was pretty cool and wanted to share it.

....i will say i think his Ninja Turtles look a lot better in color (which is ironic considering their roots)

Murphy's stuff is pretty awesome. I love the use of solid blacks which I think would work well for TMNT. It has a certain kind of raw look which I like. However, I'm not crazy about artists giving the TMNT Shell abs but over all his TMNT look pretty neat.

I do love Freddie's interpretation so I'm happy with what we're getting and I also love his watercolor look even though it may be a bit on the colorful side. I'd go with a more earthy color pallet. His black and white stuff is gorgeous though.

yeah, Murphy's stark B&W is beautiful! and the texture's he create's with his inking has such a nice raw emotion to it.

hahaha! i was pretty taken aback by the Shell abs myself

i was really thrilled when i saw the interior art for the Batman/TMNT #1.
and the painted look of the Turtles was a welcome surprise.

as far as an earthy color pallet goes, i have a penchant for earth tones myself so i always welcome them into anything!

His Turtles looks all kinds of bad with the plastron abs and way too small carapace, the heads are okay, though. But, his Batman stuff is pretty cool.

The small carapace is another thing that escaped my attention. Are Donnie's butt cheeks sticking out?

He's an amazing artist, I really like his style. His turtle "design could use some tweaks, but he puts the current batman/turtles art to shame. He's one of my favorite artists at the moment - him and Stuart Immonens' current Star Wars work...

If you haven't taken a peak at issues 9 through 12, do yourself the favor. It's brilliant. The interiors are off charts.

Spoiler:

Turtles are a challenge to do in a more realistic style in general, I think. They work best stylized, not so well IRL.

this is the only TMNT art of his that i could find, so i think it's safe to say he's fairly new at it.
i think if he draws more Turtles he'll improve?

i absolutely love his Batman art. i also just read a story he did with Grant Morrison called 'Joe the Barbarian' that had really great art!

Yeah, I don't think he's posted anything else...it takes time to get a handle on them...

I like that his style is refined but still aggressive, and he thinks in light and shadow, not line art.

yeah the Turtles are definitely not easy to get right out of the gate.
i absolutely LOVE Neal Adams art! but that variant cover he did for Batman/TMNT (guessing it was his first time drawing the Ninja Turtles?) but there was something amiss about them.

there's definitely a lot of emotion in Murphy's art!

i was really bummed when i heard Capullo was taking a few month's off Batman.
the more i'm seeing of Murphy art i'm really hoping it's true about him filling in.

Why are their shells so tiny? ...Like they've outgrown it and now have their butts sticking out? O_o
Great artist, but the rigid jaws are kind of derpy. I guess i'm not really a fan of his turtles.

hahaha! OMG! when i first saw his TMNT i honestly didn't even notice the tiny shells with their butt cheeks hanging out for all to see!!

i really like his art style and mood, but that Ninja Turtle anatomy (specifically the lovely turtle lumps) are revoltingly unnecessary!!!

(_Y_)

wut'cha gunna do with all that junk ..... all that junk ....
