So, M&Ms is apparently walking back their whole campaign by suspending all candy mascots and replacing them with Maya Rudolph. Huh?

You guys over in America probably get the same commercial for the M&Ms chocolate bar that we get over here on TV, with the yellow M&M in therapy for hearing voices, right? In retrospect, it makes a lot of sense. Woke people are either intimately acquainted with psychotherapy, or they very much should be to save us all this kind of nonsense grief.

I vaguely recall a chocolate bar ad for the brand, but that was probably a few years ago, not seen it in ages and don't think anyone read anything into it over here.

Sometimes it isn't just "woke" people who should get acquainted with therapy, but also people who hunt candy commercials for "political" stuff to get mad about.



Saw suggestions that the mascots thing could simply be a publicity stunt in time for the Superbowl ads. After all, what better way to catch attention then to threaten a big change to the face of its branding.

It may or may not be true. It may be a ruse. Like Maya will come on a Superbowl commercial and maybe the new extra diverse M&Ms burst through the wall and cart her away, and that's the shtick.

Yeah. Fairly effective marketing idea. Get everyone on the right riled up because M&Ms are allegedly becoming super diverse and extra LGBTQ, then more publicity on the right when M&Ms allegedly walks the whole thing back (lots of blurbs have been popping up by commentators on the right basically going, "LOL!! M&Ms had to walk it back!!" but I've been suspicious the whole time). Now everybody's talking about M&Ms -- mission accomplished.

Only question is if when the smoke clears on this charade the M&M characters will be the super diverse/LGBTQ gang they teased initially or it'll just be the normal, classic M&Ms back. I guess they kind of have to commit to the super diverse/LGBTQ gang since if they do backpedal then that's be them basically admitting they used the LGBTQ "community" to execute a marketing stunt. Or maybe the super diverse/LGBTQ gang will be the mascots for a new brand of M&Ms they're launching.

Although how can they be any sexuality anyhow, they're talking pieces of candy, they don't really possess the ability to bang each other. Best they can do is either just stand in the right sequence to look somewhat rainbow-ish or have stereotyped personalities that prove nothing.

This might just be what started the problem, even though I did find the whole "Sexy Green" candy campaign amusing. I actually bought several large bags showcasing the feminine green design when they were on huge clearance at Kroger last year, since I figured that would be the last time M&Ms would ever green-light that particular look for her... er, it?
