30th anniversary of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia

On 28 October 1918, the Republic of Czechoslovakia was founded. On 1 January 1993, it was dissolved and split into the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic.

Yesterday, the breakup was 30 years ago. At the same time, Yugoslavia underwent another, more horrible, breakup with wars, weapons and violence. Today, both countries are members of the United Nations, the Council of Europe, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and the European Union.

While Team Czechoslovakia used to be more successful when it came to ice hockey, both the Czech Republic and Slovakia have actually won the IIHF Men's Ice Hockey World Championships after the breakup.

The Czech Team ended up second at the UEFA Men's European Soccer Championship in June 1996.
