Return to Monkey Island
Very awesome news. And it's from Ron Gilbert himself.

Ohhh, a new monkey island game by Ron Gilbert!
I am hyped for it I am happy he is still interested in developing point and click adventure games, i really enjoyed Thimbleweed Park, it's really cool that he gets to work on a Monkey Island game now! Last edited by Nickokapo; 07-09-2022 at 07:17 AM. |

Gotta say, not crazy about the "look" they are going with for the game, but whatever.

I am not a fan, not so much of the artstyle (which i am not crazy about, but i think looks ok, and clearly purposefuly stylized...reminds me of the samurai jack cartoon or those 60's Toei animation movies. It is not my cup of tea, but that's my personal taste. )
But rather the "flash" style animation i am not fond of. "Tweening", i think it's called? But whatever i am all for a new Monkey Island game by Ron Gilbert, so long as the game and story is good and fun, i'll be satisfied! On the topic of the art style, apparently some overtly toxic trolls were negative and scathing enough of the art for mr.gilbert to want to close the devblog down: "The joy of sharing has been driven from me." That's sad. I think he made the right decision to go offline, both for his sanity and to keep his artistic vision, it's pointless to put up with vicious attacks from randos, specially if he working on a project at the time, it must affect productivity and ability to focus. And there is nothing to gain, no "Thick skin" will ever make non-constructive criticism or outright personal attacks suddenly have a point. Anyway, the same backlash happened when the Zelda "Wind Waker" art style was revealed and that did alright. I think he's good. |

Interesting. Though "people said mean things on the internet!"? Is Ron Gilbert just discovering the worldwide web now, in 2022 or something? I love Ron Gilbert but I still have to roll my eyes at that stuff.
I'm OK with whatever style he wants to do. He could make it a first person shooter and I'd play it.

Wowzers! It's out. Talk about the worst marketing campaign ever. Has anyone seen an ad for this?
