First thought: well that's incredible, finally

second thought: wondering just how good they can get this film to look for a 4K release because the 1080p looks awful. hope they don't resort to any techniques that will make the end result look very strange like Cameron's The Abyss and True Lies turned out

With a new OLED TV on the way for me, this 4K Turtles movie is a good thing, I see it. I just sure hope we get the trilogy. I maybe in the minority about this, but I actually enjoyed the third movie; maybe because I have a strong passion for Japanese history and culture, even in myths and legends.

I'm hoping The Making of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Behind the Shells will be a special feature. It was released on VHS some time back, and it's on the Australian Blu-ray release of the movie. I'm just glad it's getting at least one special feature, as even the Blu-ray was basically barebones.

This tweet even says that it'll be released on VHS as well. It's most likely a novelty thing.

Hoping there's some genuinely good behind-the-scenes stuff. Let's see the best versions of those deleted scenes, damn it!

Just because it says 4K on the cover doesn't mean they've enhanced it that much. I don't think this movie is going to benefit from 4K at all.

Even if they do an all new transfer from a very good source it will be less improvement than people would like. But, it could still be worth it.

I think a similar comparison would be perhaps the 1993 Super Mario Bros. movie which recently got a 4K release. It ended up being very worth it with people really happy with the visual upgrade even if the source quality is not that stellar, similar to TMNT 1990 in that sense.

We have to hope that whoever is behind the 4K release will be giving it the tender care and love that it needs in order to get the maximum benefit with hopefully few to no downsides.

I almost want to say that it could be worth it just for the special features alone, but I'm still waiting for more word on what those features will be. Even the Blu-ray was basically barebones. So a 4K should have some worthwhile features.

With the right team, a 4K TMNT 90 could be really nice. I hope it gets the love it deserves.

However the features, I mean-- it'll be hard to best what the doc crew is producing/releasing.

Wouldn't it still be an improvement over the current blu-rays? Even if it's not as good as it could be?

It will benefit from 4k in the fine detail because it was shot on film. But, unfortunately it's a very grainy movie and a lot of the fine detail will be buried under the extreme grain.

I actually don't mind the third movie either. I thought it had some funny moments in it. The turtles working out and dancing to 'ZZ Top - Can't Stop Rockin'' was great too. I loved the ancient Japan setting and the Japanese guys dancing to 'Baltimora - Tarzan Boy' in the bar was hilarious When Casey was trying to get them to play hockey then they started fighting with each other It was interesting to see Elias Koteas also playing as another character in the movie too.

I happened upon this video, and this other guy thinks it's Arrow too, if it's not Warner Bros. themselves. It starts around the 1:43 mark.

Shout! Studios announced their January 2025 releases, and I was hoping it would be among them, but it isn't. If they're the ones doing it, they usually do a pretty good job on things. If it's Arrow, then it'd be the first time I'd be getting anything from that boutique company.

There's a a pretty awesome trend of older movies being released with the workprint as bonus content. That's really what I want to see more than anything.
