TMNT 1 Hack for Nes
Hello, guys. I present you a new graphic hack of the first TMNT game for the NES.
I changed the head of the turtles to resemble their Old Toon counterparts. Also I modified the pause screen, Rocksteady is now gray instead of pink, and the mousers look like mousers. Just for fun, I altered the colors of the backgrounds of the first level. Below you'll find some comparison screens. The ones on the left are from the original unmodified game, and the ones on the right are from the new hack. SEWER: 9.png 26.png |

Very cool! I like your changes, especially the new profile pictures for the Turtles, Splinter, and April. Did you make those or find them?
The new mousers look great. I'd love to see clearer sprites for the chainsaw guy, boomerang guy (always thought that was Rat King), and the mutant frog. Quote:
One critique: I think the new sewer background is just too bright. Kinda like a SNES game that just wants to show off how many bright colors it can display. I really dig that classic sewer atmosphere of the original game.

And I also thought that the boomerang guy was supposed to be the rat king. It wasn't until recently that I discovered that we wasn't :S I agree with you on the background colors. I'll try some darker ones and if it doesn't work I'll leave the original version. Anyway thank you for your comments! I'll try to have a new version soon. |

My brother, friends, and I always thought the boomerang guys were simians were some sort. Maybe the way they bounded all over the place, or perhaps the fact that the boomerangs looked like bananas....

I had no clue where they got the chainsaw guy from... unless it was supposed to be a deranged Casey Jones clone.

You made this hack?
It looks cool, but I can't stand going back to that game again. Any chance you'll do the other two games, and maybe even some gameplay improvements? Hell, I'll take gameplay improvements over graphical improvements.

The other two games can't have much of an improvement graphics wise, considering that they are already very good by NES standards. However, I tweaked the second game a little, you can see it here. About gameplay improvements, well, that is another beast. I have never done that before. I tried, for this hack, to add permanently some game genie codes to the rom, but I was succesfully unsuccesful. :S |

Double post power!
I made a new version with modified intro images. I didn't change the sewer background because I think I've had enough of modifying NES tiles. If someone what to continue with this... "project", he's more than welcome. He/she could start by changing the graphics of the ending. You cand find the new version in one of my previous posts. |

Did you redraw those images yourself? It's too bad you've been burned out, because those ending images seriously need an overhaul. Splinter and April have seen better days for sure!

Sometimes I think I may be the only person alive that actually likes the first NES TMNT game.
I'll agree that the DOS port is a total piece of crap, though.

Nah, I totally love this game and always have. Even when it kicked my tail for 10 years. It was the #2 reason I wanted an NES (as if I had to mention the first). And I think if most people are honest with themselves they would admit they loved the game back in the day and now claim to hate it simply because they are mad they could never make it past level 3.

If level 3 is the dam (which I know a lot of people say is too hard), then I'm one step ahead of everybody else. I can very easily defuse all the bombs and beat that level... it's just everything else AFTER that that really gives me trouble.
I've beaten the game two or three times in my life... but then again, I've played the game billions of times, so those victories are less than one percent of the overall amount of time I've played the game. I do think the game is pretty fun, but after the dam it does tend to get pretty brutal. I think the game being mostly as hard as it is is what makes Shredder (the final boss) such a let-down (since he's so incredibly easy to beat).
