Sales were down as a whole from last month. It looks like the Nick comic is back to similar sales as the previous series, so the relaunch only temporarily boosted sales.
If the comic isn't reaching its intended audience (kids watching the cartoon), then maybe its for the best that Nick animated comes to an end. I'd rather IDW use their manpower for 3 comics in the IDW universe (the ongoing, and two different micros/mini's) then instead. |

I've loved the Nick comic ever since the rebranding. I personally hope it sticks around.

20k for the main ongoing is great sales. This series has been sticking 14-16 forever, and I think it probably averages that. So to see a few 20k+ in recent months is cool.
Yeah the nick comic is cool I guess, because it is fun for kids, but if it in any way hampers the main one... cut it. |

it's a good feeling to know that the IDW TMNT main comic series is selling well.
i decided early on that no matter what they put out for new issues of Ninja Turtles i'd pick it up. the ones based on the cartoon series are amusing enough, but the ongoing series is pretty much my favorite new comic month after month.

It's an even better feeling to know that the quality of the art & storytelling has remained consistently great for over 50 issues!

Only 17,000 for #53 is a bit lower than usual. Seems like the #50 hype has worn off.

Man, looking at those sales it really makes you realize how much DC comics sell compared to IDW comics. I wonder if DC ever got the rights to publish a TMNT comic how much it would sell (without any crossovers), but I suppose we'll never know.
Also keep in mind the first Batman crossover came with like a gazillion alternate covers so that obviously drove up sales. The Nick comic looks like it may almost be on its last legs. Bobby confirmed we're getting at least 12 issues of it, I wonder if that will be the end. |

#2. Kids read plenty of comics, usually even comics above their "age rating." There's a reason comics are in the "teen" or "YA" section at all of the libraries in my area. I think what's killing the Nick comic is any kids who WOULD read it would rather read Batman or Iron Man, where stuff actually happens and storylines go on for 4 to 6 months at a time. However, that's all 100% my own theory which could quite likely be bogus.

Or they're buying them digitally, but I can't imagine digital sales being much different than regular sales.
Also even though I don't read comics outside of TMNT and Usagi Yojimbo, I do sometimes browse through DC and Marvel comics on the rack. And keep up on online summaries of what goes on. |

Issue #2 also only had two cover variants (three if you count the reprint), compared to the 30 (!) for issue #1...
