Are Mutants (humanoid animals created by ooze) other than the main 5 a huge mistake?
The poll is what it is, I don't care if I rigged it.
Anyway, yes, they are. The whole point of the main five is that they are unique, making more more of them is a slippery slope starting from a position of not getting a really simple point. And it's just unbelievably lazy to top it off, it's just forcing a freak accident to happen several times over so characters who can basically be described "The Turtles but X instead of turtles". If it's boring to create nothing but human characters, new characters could just as easily be aliens, demons or robots, no need to make them yet another humanoid animal character. |

Mirage already opened the floodgates when they created Leatherhead. Once you make a Mutant alligator there's no reason think more animal mutants can't come later. Technically it happened again with Bloodsucker in Mirage who was basically the first version of Wyrm, a mutant leech who could suck the mutagen out of the Turtles.
But it is obvious once Bebop/Rocksteady became Shredder's Mutant henchmen in the original cartoon, that basically opened the floodgates for everything that came after. Probably helped it was the easiest way to market characters and toys to kids. But I do think the Turtles just fighting human enemies or aliens would get old after awhile. The fact that a lot of aliens just resemble human animals anyway makes it barely any difference. |

As long as it's not overdone, I think mutants is a good idea, because it creates a fighting challenging fitting opponent to the Turtles and Splinter. Except for Shredder, if you make all the Turtles' opponents human, it's an easy and predictable win in battle. Not only can some of these mutants be opponents, there can be some as allies to fight the enemy mutants.
