The removal of Michelangelo's nunchucks was because they were a popular weapon for real life gangs in Europe at the time. Airings of Seasons 1 - 4 contained cuts whenever the character using his nunchuks. This isn't being 'cancelled' though. Censored yes but not cancelled in the cultural terms you mean.

The replacement of Michelangelo's nunchuks with a grappling hook was when the Us version of the show moved to CBS. To this day no one knows why they did this but it likely it had little to do with the UK.

The only 'cancelling' was when that American Pie guy got cancelled and no longer voiced Leo in the 2012 show. But then again, why would a kids channel like Nick even hire him?

Proves? Links?
First time I am hearing about it throughout the years.
Not to mention it doesn't make much sense practically.

I mean that was the general concensus back then. Gangs used nunchucks, those countries didn't want kids to tie sticks together and go wild. Pretty much common knowledge by now.

I've heard only about kids making their own nunchuks, nothing about gangs using them.

Heck, the word "ninja" is taboo in many European countries so that when the TMNT were being marketed over there, they would be called the Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles.

If Disney gets their hands on TMNT, it’s a done deal.
