Now that I've just seen Mutant Mayhem, here's my worst to best (note that I'm including only the theatrical movies):

TMNT III - Do I even need to explain myself here?

TMNT 2007 - Just a rather boring movie, overall. It feels less like a Turtles movie, and more like a Leonardo and Raphael movie.

TMNT 2014 - While it's an improvement from the two previous movies, it feels there's just too much going on here. It has a bit too much of that Michael Bay feel. I'm not a fan of the Turtles' designs here.

Mutant Mayhem - Very middle-of-the-road for me. I'm not a big fan of this movie's art design, but it's competently-made enough. I liked the whole concept of them just going after other mutants.

Out of the Shadows - Way better than the 2014 movie, and easily the best TMNT movie since the 90's, IMO. The tone feels closer to what I like in TMNT, and we finally get Krang, as well as Bebop and Rocksteady in a TMNT movie. It sure took long enough.

Secret of the Ooze - The first two TMNT movies could almost be like one long movie. This one, while its slightly less good, is still an amazing movie.

TMNT 1990 - The first TMNT movie is still the best to me (and most fans, it seems), and even one of my favorite movies of all-time. It has just about everything a TMNT fan could want. It's a perfect balance in tone of the Mirage comics and the 1987 cartoon. As James Rolfe (AKA the Angry Video Game Nerd) once said, the movie is like the end of the 80's and the beginning of the 90's.

I do agree that I'd probably rather watch MM over either of those two PD abominations.

However, I feel like comparing the animated films with the live-action movies is kind of a weird list because there are different expectations when it comes to both of them. Imagine doing a list of the many Batman movies both animated and live-action. It'd be like putting the likes of the Lego Batman Movie or Scooby-Doo! & Batman: The Brave and the Bold on the same list as 89 or Nolan's trilogy.

Ranking the ones I have seen.

1.Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles(1990).

Legitimately good film and the only one to have a strong theme that one being family and what that means.

2. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles(2014).

Not a great film but I can't say it is bad exactly and honestly I do not mind Eric Sacks and Shredder being two different villains working together no matter what the original intentions were.

It works very well to me.

Turtles Forever(2009).

Pretty miserable misrepresentation of the classic cartoon turtles and in hindsight all the 4th wall breaking and meta commentary is getting really tiresome. I still take it over secret of the Ooze but that is not high praise for me.

4. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Secret of the Ooze(1991).

This movie is just okay. Not bad not good just okay.

5. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3(1993).

By no means and awful film and it actually has a stronger story then the second one. However the goofy sound effects and cheesy lines from the turtles are really cringe.

Ultimately it is bad, but not terrible.

1. TMNT 1990 - Well made and way better than it had any right to be. TMNT was so hot when this came out that it could have been Barney-tier garbage and ticket sales probably wouldn’t have been hurt much. Almost every performance is memorable, and the fights were fun. I’ve probably watched this over 100 times in my life, it was a go to when my sister and I got together with the cousins. It will always be very special to me. I don’t see it ever being topped, especially considering the current state of things.

2. Turtles Forever - Great love letter to the franchise and a fairly early pioneer into multi-verse fiction, which is just played out by this point. My hype for this was uncontainable, and it delivered. Not related to the actual movie but the recent LOTR rereleases got me fired up all over again over the infamous Fathom Events bait and switch. Cruel.

3. TMNT III - This movie could have bee so much more, but it still has the distinction of featuring some decent combat scenes and has some solid character arcs. The suits hurt it more than anything, and Angry Nerd made it a popular punching bag 15 years ago.

4. Batman vs. TMNT - I don’t have a lot to say about this one, other than it’s decent. Wish they would have reigned in a couple of the sillier elements. Honestly my favorite part is the end credit sequence with all the reimagined classic comic book covers.

5 TMNT: The Secret of the Ooze - This one still gets nostalgia points, but god damn. Such a downgrade in just about every category. No emotional moments, all slapstick fighting, no Hoag or Koteas. We loved it as kids though.

6. TMNT 2007 - Again, nostalgia points and I thought it should have won an Oscar when it first dropped lol. This was a pretty exciting time in TMNT history, which is so ironic now, considering how closely the sale followed. Anyways, the animation did and still does look good, never was in love with the character designs. The script was totally schizophrenic and didn’t really get any characters right. The main sin was justifying Leo’s prick behavior. Also boo for making zero attempt to capture the tone of the 90’s trilogy.

7. TMNT 2014 - Don’t have the energy to go in on this one. We mostly all feel the same. Eric Sachs? Wtf is this Foot Clan? Why are they 8 feet tall? Crazy that this was like right in the middle of the golden era of comic book fiction being taken semi-seriously and universally accepted, and Paramount thinks this is a good idea. Marvel is doing updated versions of Ant-Man and Batroc the ****ing Leaper and Mirage can’t get any love.

8. TMNT: Mutant Mayhem - I’m not a hater. It was cute but it wasn’t for me. I liked the animation style but the story didn’t have enough emotional impact to make up for the massive departure from the fundamentals of TMNT. My wife really liked it, some of the celebrity voices were fun, but yeah it just didn’t do it for me.

9. Out of the Shadows - C’mon man

X. Rise of the TMNT: The Movie - Haven’t seen it yet, but I plan to. I’m guessing I’ll place it right above or below TMNT 2007.
