TMNT (1990) 4k?
Seen this on X, would this be reliable?
If so I'm looking forward to it. |

I would love to see and get the original Ninja Turtles trilogy in 4K, especially the third because I like the Japanese setting.

Me too, I loved the scenery in the third movie. I remember loving the design of the time scepter, I actually did a drawing of it when I was a kid but unfortunately some of other kid tore up the drawing when I showed it to him Loved the scene with the honor guards dancing in the nightclub to the Tarzan Boy song and the hockey scenes too

They would have to put some real effort into cleaning up that film and giving it some great scans. The Blu-Rays were a horrible transfer job.

They should let Criteron do a TMNT 1990 release they would make it looks good

I was disappointed in the Blu-ray myself, when comparing the upscaled DVD quality to the Blu-ray I didn't notice much of a difference.

So I did some digging in, and this is definitely real. Looks like it's being helmed by a team called Vice Press. They're UK-based, but they seem to do exclusive 4K and VHS runs that are officially licensed. The same artist behind that super cool 1990 TMNT cover did one for Blade Runner.
Looks like they do a lot of collectibles and posters too, so I wouldn't be surprised if we get more TMNT 1990 stuff from them alongside this 4K run. Oh, and apparently they want to do a special VHS edition.

This reminds me when people thought the 2k3 DVD collection was fake and it turned out real. So maybe this is too.

Oh, I'm 100% going to be a hipster and a VHS tape if it comes out. I still have all my 1987 VHS releases and movies sans boxes though. I feel like I'll be all in with whatever they decide to put out.

I'll probably buy both the 4K and VHS. I still have a VHS player but I haven't used it in years. I have a bunch of VHS tapes stored in a filing cabinet in my kitchen. There are times where I feel like digging them out and having a watch of some of them for a trip down memory lane.

Shouldn't be hard to get us a better transfer than what we have on that blu-ray. Looks awful in some scenes. I know it's a very grainy film so there is only so much that can be done, but at this point my hope is we can get a fairly clean 4K transfer (please go easy on the denoising) and then some years down the road, as AI improves, we can get an AI cleaned up version by fans to fix a lot of the issues. It's a somewhat controversial process right now but I've seen the potential it has, it's just not QUITE good enough yet (James Cameron would disagree.)

I hope they do TMNT II and III as well then, give the original 90's movie trilogy a proper 4k release and I can retire the blu-rays.
