I swear I'll never see the word "Madame" without thinking of the French teacher joke in Rocky V.

I never thought Sony would finally forge ahead with all these "Spider-fam" character movies that don't include Spider-man.

Honestly, it looks interesting in a "wow, they really threw everything and the kitchen sink into the trailer" way. I wouldn't expect the level of quality to be anything superior to Morbius or Venom 2. Which is, to say, it'll be crap.

Hahahaha, oh my god, is this for real? It looks absolutely f*cking hilarious in the most horrible way. And that main actress is as charismatic as a sea cucumber. Great work!

If this flops -- and it will -- and Kraven flops -- which it will -- maybe Disney will be in a stronger negotiating place to finally buy back all the Spider-Man rights from Sony. And I'm really surprised Sony allowed Marvel to NOT let them use Spider-Man in their villain movies. That would be like the one thing that could have made them work. And again, we're getting a THIRD Venom movie with a Venom that hasn't even so much as crossed paths with Spider-Man? Preposterous.

Sony won't give rights up - they are too greedy for that.
Unless Gisnep outright buys them, they will clutch them to the end.

And I think its one of the few properties of theirs, which actually attracts some attention from people.

Madame Web isn't a villain. She's long been an ally of Spideys', she was a big deal in the 90s animated series, where she mentored Peter and moulded him into the champion of the multiverse

Ooooh, it‘s that horrible actress from the Fifty Shades films! What a great fit for this trainwreck.

Ohhhh okay. Love Spider-Man but my Spidey collection pretty much runs ASM volume 1 #'s 298 - 400 and a few other outliers here or there. I don't know that I've ever read a Spidey book with Madame Web in it....

Either way this looks like another stretch-use of the I.P. for more "Spider-Man clones" on-film. No pun intended about the clone thing....

Be careful! The forum virtue-signalers will predict that this movie will do very well, just like Craptain Marvel 2! Don't want to be at odds with the opportunists by making any misstep in your communication that they can pounce on for their self-victory!

I mean, I haven't seen the Fifty Shades movies, for obvious reasons, but she seemed good in this trailer. I have no real complaints. Just that it looks good enough to stand on its won without the 'not-Spider-Man' villain.

She wasn't nearly as big of a deal in the comics when she was introduced prior to the animated series. In the books, se was very mysterious and ominous but didn't offer much in the way of enriching Peter as a character

Her most famous story from the period was "Nothing Can Stop The Juggernaught", an all time classic from Roger Stern, which actually deconstructs her whole shtick and turns her into a damsel in distress that Peter ultimately fails in protecting.

It will make ten dollars at the box office and then the clowns here who didn't pay to see it will complain about how people are seeing "woke" everywhere they go and how this movie needed a shot.

But if only we would just stop noticing, things would be so much better. Why does it bother you so much? Etc., etc., the usual playbook.

And this is really surprising from Sony. Continuously. Here they have an opportunity to do things that Disney/Marvel wouldn't do or allow... i.e., get buried in DEI and other virtue signaling, and just do weird but provocative things that push the meter that you wouldn't dream of Disney/Marvel doing... and apparently -- instead -- this is something much worse than anything Disney/Marvel has put out of the MCU. Which has always been my complaint about stuff like Venom. Here Sony has this chance to dip their toe sort of into Marvel and do whatever they want... and they choose to do something super sanitized, and in this case even diving full bore into everything that made stuff like Birds of Prey and The Marvels fail... spectacularly.

Sony was always trying to be extra sanitized and generic.
They were never like early-MCU, which occasionally flirted with more extra ideas.

Basically, Sony's main motivation is not to make art, but to make money. They completely exclude any notion of creative process from equation, producing the most sanitized crap possible. They lucked with Raimi, but ruined his efforts and then ****ed up Webb and Garfield movies. If it was not for Marvel, I am sure third reboot of Spider-Man would have been a failure.

Sony is like opposite of Fox-men series.

Maybe he is, not sure if he is but he might be.

Anyway, when it comes to the Spider-Man license, there is also the matter of maintaining that license. They know the possibility of losing it is always there, so sometimes, they will just make a movie at the lowest possible budget just to be sure Disney doesn't take over.

Yeah, yeah, I made a funny.

What I should have said is that Sony doesn't really care about any artistic merit of their projects, unlike early-DC and early-Marvel. They just copypaste most used formulas and call it a day.
