Johan Neeskens has passed away
Former soccer player Johan Neeskens from the Netherlands has passed away, aged 73. He was born on 15 September 1951 in Heemstede in the Netherlands, and played as a midfielder for AFC Ajax in the early 1970's, winning the UEFA Champions' Cup three times in a row (1971, 1972 and 1973) before moving on to FC Barcelona in Spain in 1974.
Between 1979 and 1984, he played for New York Cosmos in the North American Soccer League. With the Netherlands, he won the silver medals during the FIFA World Cup twice, in West Germany in 1974 and in Argentina in 1978. After giving up his player career in 1991, he became a coach but his greatest successes came as a player. |
