So what do you think of the season so far? Episode 2 and 4 were decent but episode 1 had to deal with the nonsense from the sesason 5 finale and episode 3 was just really awkward to watch.

I've liked all the episodes from S6 so far; I think it's shaping up to be better than S5 IMO.

Are you not a fan of all the on-going canon stuff, the S5 finale and S6 opener?

I'm not a fan of the exact direction they went, not necessarily the concept of having an ongoing story. It's creating contradictions in trying to make sense of the context clues, which is just bizarre. The problem is that the choice to canonise Rick's backstory from the season 3 premiere makes no sense because it was explicitly fake and had to be fake in order to move the plot along. It's a bunch of little things like that which just annoys me about this, if you want to have a serious plot, at least bother to have it make sense, don't just contradict things because it's more dramatic.

I've been pretty pleased, overall with this season so far. I'm not always laughing hysterically but it's always interesting. Last season had a ton of stinkers.

I'll admit I am curious as to whether the writing team is just waiting to reveal the truth about these so-called inconsistencies and it's just a matter of our understanding of the story being wrong, or if there really just have been some balls dropped regarding continuity and these are just little, unintended continuity errors with no good way to explain other than just human error

In any case though they're pretty minor to me and I'm enjoying the show more than last season. This week's Rick and Jerry episode should be funny

Alright, we're four episode in and I don't think we've seen any of the real clips in the intro yet, so I guess we're about due.

So, which ones are real?

Ok I'm gonna guess

Rick & Summer wingsuiting away from a giant flying squirrel: real
Rick & Morty meeting Jack the Ripper: fake
Whole family (with Space Beth) parade scene: fake
Mech-suit Jerry: real (maybe even from the episode coming out later this week)
Melting Butter Morty: fake

I would say Jerry in the space suit is the most likely candidate to be real. Generally the real clips will be animated more stiffly and not really be that funny because they're just ripped from actual scenes with no clear context, while the fake clips are amusing on their own. The real clips tend to also have some sign of being cut off, like they're meant to to go on for longer.

I think the most obvious case of a real clip the show ever used was Story Lord punching Rick in the face, it makes absolutely no sense out of context.

Now I'm curious about the rest of this season's episodes based on their titles

From Wikipedia:
Quote:
Later episodes are titled "Juricksic Mort", "Ricktional Mortpoon's Rickmas Mortcation", "Full Meta Jackrick", "A Rick in King Mortur's Mort", and "Analyze Piss".
I would've thought they considered spoofing Jurassic Park done, since they basically did the same shtick with the Anatomy Park episode

I'm wondering what "Analyze Piss" is about since it's one of the few episode titles to not follow their usual convention of shoehorning in a family member's name

From my understanding, they'll be spoofing the "Extinct animals come back" aspect of JP this time, not the "Attempt to open a scientifically implausible theme park full of monsters" aspect like in Anatomy Park.

Well I thought that was a pretty funny episode and I really had no idea what to expect based on the very spare preview from last week. Seems they're being pretty cagey with next week's episode too

I wonder if Rick will comment on how while they've already parodied the vibe of Jurassic Park they're now spoofing it's actual premise

LMAO I hadn't seen that yet.

It does feel similar, if anything like a utopian version of wondering what humanity would do under a regime change that significantly changed their society.

What will be very different is the Smith family's reaction, I think

There are also a few similarities in the details as well, such as Beth drinking wine and being annoyed that her job as a horse surgeon is now obsolete, as well as Summer's irritation that she can't make money and Morty's general apathy to the situation. I think the main difference is that Rick is present instead of Jerry, though he takes on a similar role by being amused by the concept of Earth having been conquered like this and it having no impact on his life. Beyond that, I guess the Federation is (kind of) more "explicitly" evil while the Dinos need to be expunged by the end of the episode may be more of a twist.

So the season was fine, in all. None of them I can point to and say was bad, outright. I couldn't say that about a lot of the episodes in the last couple of seasons. That said, none of these was great.

Oh, and look. Justin Roiland is in trouble for beating up his significant other:

Wow I thought he was being dropped because of the creepy grooming-esque messages with minors, I hadn't heard anything about domestic abuse

Apparently -- allegedly -- he struck an ex so hard she needed medical attention in 2020 and also wouldn't let her leave. So far he hasn't been found guilty of anything. So this is less "we know he did this horrible thing" and more Adult Swim not wanting to deal with the backlash of keeping him on in the mean time.

Still, yeesh. Rick and Morty, RIP. This is not like recasting the voice of Homer Simpson. This is removing a big part of the creative nerve center.
