Dragonslayer(1981)
Love this movie, deserved more recognition or at least a good blu ray release with special features.
Any fans of this movie? |

Definitely a fan as a kid, although I haven't sat through it in decades.
Off the top of my head I think this movie did actually get a Blu Ray release and I think it was from Shout Factory..... |

It's a wild piece of cinema to be sure (the fair princess who appears on most promotional art actually gets chewed up down to her bones), and it has some curious legal rights being a joint production by Paramount and Disney (for that reason, it does not show up on MoviesAnywhere).
And I'm pretty sure Don Bluth loved the idea so much he decided to do a whole video game around it, maybe to spite Disney again? Even the Dragon's Lair font almost matches identically to Dragonslayer. I have a weird time watching Peter MacNicol in any role without thinking of Ghostbusters 2. Also, Emperor Palpatine!

I just went to Shout! Factory to check on this, but they released The Sword And The Sorcerer [Collector's Edition] rather than Dragonslayer.
Now I'd love to see this on 4k. I remember how cool it was as a kid when "Yanosh" makes his way into the cave with the fire everywhere and I thought it was awesome. I have no idea how it would hold up now under the scrutiny of 4k. It would either look amazing or like the worst stop motion nonsense going on.... |

Makes me wonder if a blu ray and/or 4k release will ever happen for this one.
Such a great dragon design. |

It just screams "Shout! Factory" release, doesn't it? Almost makes me want to pick up the Sword and the Sorcerer.

Can you imagine if it actually made it into The Criterion Collection?

LOL, no idea! My friend and I picked up a bunch of VHS at an estate sale; this was one of them. I have never actually seen this movie.

Been a long time since I've seen it. As soon as I can get my hands on the 4K (on sale), either digital or disc i'm fine with whatever, i'll do a rewatch.

Forgot to mention that the blu ray/4K will have special features such a feature commentary by the director and Guillermo Del Toro.
