Self-Care Sunday

It's Sunday, friends.

What's something you did today to appreciate and take care of yourself?

I went for a bike ride and did some light exercise after, I'm trying to stay fit since I'm in my 30s now

I jerked off this morning.

Your fault, you asked.

I had lunch with my family. I always like doing things with other people rather than alone.

Shredder and Krang combined had the biggest arsenal of any villains in all of the cartoons.

Didn't take long to go in that direction. Not that the title didn't make me think it.

I dunno, hot shower in a few before bed? Didn't do much today other than finally get the rest of Christmas taken down then sit on my butt... so...

edit: Still trying to avoid sick people in the family to try to dodge that virus, does that count?

Nobody can ever love you if you don't love yourself.

I just take that a bit more literally than most people.

I took a hot bubble bath for the first time since April. Hubby's need for wheelchair, etc since the amputation requires having a bench to help him in the shower, and it's difficult to get it in and out of the bathroom, so I have just been taking showers. But this weekend I finally decided to go for a long hot bath with some Epsom salts to help with my injured foot. It was so nice to just relax with scented bubbles and the salts to hlep the ache that still hasn't completely gone away.

This is the move. Few things are as therapeutic.

I exercised (lifted weights) and made beef stew. Both might not fall into the self-care category because I don't always enjoy them, but they're necessary evils.

Yesterday? I woke up for no reason after only 3 hours of sleep and couldn't go back to sleep. I ran on the treadmill and BBQed some steaks but the rest of the day was largely spent in a tired daze.

I find many acts of self-care to be necessary evils

I'm reminded of the therapist's speech from Rick and Morty

True that. There's a lot of maintenance and upkeep involved in optimizing, let alone sustaining our bodies and minds. It's tiring.

Yeah for real. I've been pretty consistent with working out again, it's been nice to feel fit again and start to see some real progress. But it's still ultimately just work what kinda weight lifting you do?

Nice. I'm doing full-body bodyweight and dumbbell exercises at home. Curls, bench press, Romanian deadlifts, goblet squats, etc. I just started walking again after nearly dying and breaking over a dozen bones, so I'm gradually ramping up the intensity.

oh damn that sounds like it fvcking sucks, how did you manage that??

I just do calisthenics at home, don't have a gym membership rn. Probably get one later this month. But til then I'll just keep doing reps of push-ups and sit-ups, occasionally some bicep curls

A really bad fall (near-fatal).

Sounds like a solid routine. Push-ups are a compound exercise, so you're getting some good coverage there.

Oh man, that could have been really bad had you been out there by yourself. I've done a lot of hiking in my time and I've seen some pretty bad spots for falls.
